Brief an die Gastfamilie

Dear Au Pair Family!

My name is Kelly. I am a 19 year-old (female) student. I currently live in Newberry, where I am working for the State of Michigan in the D.N.R. (Department of Natural Resources) for Tahquamenon Falls State Park during the summer months. But in the fall/winter/spring months, I live in Sault Sainte Marie, where I am completing my studies in Biology and Human Resource Managment at the Lake Superior State University. I am currently going for a Bachelors degree but will go back for a masters. After a year through college, I would like to take some time out of academics to have a different life experience, and to have time to calmly reflect on my future academic/professional orientation. I think spending a year abroad would be particularly interesting. I am very easy going and good at adapting and learning new things.

My primary language is English, but I have taken two years of Spanish in high school. I loved learning the culture of Spain and other countries that speak Spanish, also learning the language itself was fun. I would enjoy learning a new language on top of that or even learning more difficult Spanish.

When it comes to child care experience, I have looked after children in both formal and informal contexts. During my middle school years (grade 6-8) I babysat all every summer, all summer. I loved it! I worked for families, and a daycare that a family friend had owned. I also have volunteered at the school and helped look after kindergarteners/first graders and do arts and crafts with them. I come from a very large family with 35+ immediate family cousins, that are a wide range of ages. So when not working or attending school I like to help take care and entertain the younger cousins. We do various of different activities such as, going to the school park, swimming at a nearby lake, playing baseball, tennis, basketball, riding bikes, arts and crafts or anything the child likes to do.

When it comes to leisure, I take pleasure in the simple things in life. I enjoy being outdoors, being with my friends, going for walks, visiting places I have not been to, and traveling. I have been to majority of the states in United States. I am willing to go on any family vacations with you! I love seeing new things, learning about different cultures and meeting new people! I also doing sports (basketball, tennis, football, ect) So if your family participates in sports, I would gladly like to tag along!

As far as preferences are concerned, I am looking for a live-in arrangement with a host family, that would be happy to have me stay with and work for them for at least 3 months, but less than a year. I would also prefer looking after children aged between 6 months to 10 years. Lastly, I am quite flexible!

I would be happy to have the opportunity to speak with you: to answer whatever questions you may have about me or my childcare experiences; to learn more about your family; your interests and to know more about what you expect from the au pair arrangement.
