Dear au pair,
If we have a 'click' and you come to live with us, you will become a genuine and equal part of our loving and fun family. You would be considered a big sister to our 2 children. We would also expect you to be honest, speak up when you do and don't agree with things and be in on all family decisions.
If you are open to it, you will have the best Denmark experience together with us! We truly value the au pair programme and find it important that you also get a lot out of the time you spend with us. We will do our best to support you in discovering our part of the world, maybe learning a new language and developing yourself so you leave again with experiences for a lifetime!
And we would love it if you could also teach us something about your culture and where you come from. It would also be wonderful to keep a life-long connection and have an extra family member in another country :-).
We will of course help you with everything: from the application form, to planning you trip and finding things for you to do here in your spare time. And we'd do our best to find others your age that you could maybe do some fun things with!
Please also read the sections about our family and what we expect from an au pair. This gives a good impression of who we are and what we're looking for in an au pair.
Please contact me if you can find yourself in this or if you have any questions!
Warmest regards,
Mahican Gielen (the mum)

Basically, to be a real and fully equal part of our family! :-)
We're hoping to find a fun, open-minded and bright young person who is responsible enough to look after 2 small children when we can't so we can leave them with you without any fear or hesitation. If you love small children and have a loving, fun, sweet and responsible personality, you could fit perfectly in our family. And to be clear: we are not looking for cheap childcare or a housekeeper, it's really about being there for the children when our hands come short! The children will be going to daycare every weekday, so you are not expected to look after them for whole days.
We especially need a helping hand with the kids in the mornings and afternoons on weekdays or when we are on call in the hospital. This mainly involves helping with getting the kids up, dressed and fed. Thereafter they would need to be brought to daycare (this is around 7.45). Then you would have time for yourself until they need to be picked up again between 15.00 -16.00. We'd like you to stay and play with them until we come home between 16.00 and 17.00 (when we're on call this would be later). Besides this, you would sometimes need to look after them in the evenings for a short time when we both happen to have meetings or hospital duties. But this would be after consulting with you of course.
We would expect that you can speak English fluently, or possibly Danish or Dutch. It is possible to sign you up for Danish lessons if you'd be interested. This is also a good way to meet others from different nationalities.
Smoking is a real no-no in our house as our son has light asthma and we really do not like it. And it is also very bad for you!
As for household chores and cooking, this would mostly be done by me as I like doing that when I have the time. It would be great if you could play with the kids when I do this.
Every member in a family needs some privacy and time for themselves. We will make clear agreements on this for all of us. You would of course have your own room. We don't have this ready yet, but I think it would be best if you have input in this when we decorate it.
And I do hope that you would want to come along with us on family outings, so we do things together (like a family!). You could even come on holidays and such if you would want to!
