Welcome Letter to the Au Pair

Dear au pair,

Welcome to the Vaughan family! We are a family of four: parents Romina and Niall and 2 beautiful girls, Isabelle (7.5 years old) and Lucy (3.5 years old). We live in a very quiet neighbourhood in Dundrum (Dublin 16), close to the Green Luas Line and Dundrum shopping centre. We are also very close to a leisure club which includes a swimming pool and gym.

Romina is originally from Italy and moved to Ireland in 2005. In 2006 she met Niall and they married in 2010. Romina works in an Irish university as a staff training manager while Niall works in Financial Services. We are both lucky enough to be able to work from home most of the time. However, Romina is usually in the office twice a week while Niall must take short business trips abroad about 3 times a month.

Isabelle is in St Attracta’s School which is just around the corner from our house (about 10 minutes walk). From next September, she will be in Second Class and will start at 8.50 am and finish at 2.30 pm. She loves arts and crafts, reading books and making up fancy stories about pretty much anything. She is learning to play the piano and practices GAA, karate and swimming. She can be shy at first, but if you give her a little time to adjust you will find a very caring and cheerful girl.

Lucy is in full time day care from about 9 am to 5 pm. She is very adventurous and loves playing Uno, puzzles, cars and reading books. She is always smiling and loving life.

We are an Italian-Irish family. Romina and the kids are fluent both in Italian and English while Niall only speaks English. If you join our family you will have a chance to improve your English and maybe even learn a bit of Italian if you like.

Our family is often busy during the week but we always try to spend time together at the weekend. When the weather is nice we love to take day trips in the nature or have bbqs in our garden and would love if you joined us. We have a good network of international friends and you will meet them for sure if you join our family.

We would love to speak with you about becoming an Au pair for our family. We think hosting an Au
pair should be an amazing experience for you and for us. We hope that this short introduction will
help you decide if you would like to hear more about us!

Job Description

What do we expect from you?

This is our third experience with an au-pair. Our previous au-pairs have been an incredible addition to our family for both us parents and the children and we are now hoping to find another great person to join our family.

Our ideal Au Pair will love caring for children and play with them while also helping them grow and develop.

We need someone who is:
• Patient and positive with loads of energy to play with the kids
• Willing to help around the house in the same way as the rest of the family
• Able to follow our rules and accept feedback regarding the care of our children
• A distinctive advantage would be an aupair who can play the piano and/or loves music to help Isabelle with her piano homework
• Open with us to give us feedback all along

Your responsibilities:
We are looking for an au pair to join our home possibly by the last week in August to the end of June 2025. Your responsibilities will include:

• Prepare Isabelle’s lunch box in the morning, then drop her to school at 8.30 am and pick her up at 2.30 pm
• Prepare lunch for Isabelle and give it to her when she is back from school, then help her with her homework and spend the rest of the afternoon with her until 6.30-7 pm.
• Take her to her swimming class or any other class she may have in the afternoon during the week
• Play a bit with Lucy when she is back from creche while we prepare dinner, so possibly from 5.30 to 6.30-7 pm.
• Help with light housework, i.e. ironing children’s clothes and cleaning up the kitchen after lunch, keeping their playroom and bedroom tidy with the children’s help, emptying the dishwasher in the morning, changing the children’s bedsheets every two weeks.
• Babysit our two girls one night a week. This will be agreed in advance each week to allow our au pair to plan her weekends accordingly.
