Hi there! We are excited to welcome an au pair to our little slice of paradise. I started my life in Australia as an au pair using this very website about 9 years ago. We live in a remote and absolutely gorgeous area of Queensland, Australia. It is one of the many islands that make up the Torres Strait, which are the islands between the Australian mainland and Papua New Guinea. Yes, it is still part of Australia. The name of this island is Horn (population 530 approx) and there is a 15 min ferry over to Thursday Island (population 3,000 approx), which is like the metropolis of the Torres Strait. There is an airport here on Horn, and it is 1hr 45 mins to fly to Cairns (population 150,000 approx), home of the Great Barrier Reef and beautiful waterfalls to explore. Horn’s has lots of walking track, swimming holes (in the wet season), a couple beaches.

Job Beschreibung

Your job will be to care for little Barrett. We’ll follow the Education Queensland calendar, so you’ll work for 10 weeks, M-F from about 7:30 to 4:00, and then have 2 weeks off. We are happy to book you a flight to Cairns for your 2 weeks off, or you are welcome to stay around. Barrett is a very happy baby, turns 1 year old in Feb 2023. He communicates his needs well, naps well, and eat pretty much anything. I will be returning to work after being on maternity leave for the last year. I need our au pair to be a learner with a growth mindset and take feedback well. As an educator myself with early childhood being my focus, I am happy to coach you along the way. We are pretty relaxed parents, but are also very present with Barrett. Communication builds a very strong foundation for Barrett’s literacy development, so we read a lot of books and talk and explain what we see and do. We believe there is no such thing as “naughty” in this early stage of life. We’ve read a lot about neuroscience and brain development and this helps us under Barrett. We have clear boundaries with Barrett and following a routine is very important.
