Letter to the family

Dear Family,

My name is Ssebuliba . I am a 28 year-old (male) Ugandan Citizen. I currently live in Kampala in the City side east of the city centre.

I e from a family of 6: My parents, Kauma and Mariam are all deceased, I have 4 sisters and one brother. My two sisters are aged between 26 and 24 years old and are still pursuing their education. My youngest brother 18 years old and other two sisters one is 20 and last born 14, years old, and are in their second year of secondary school.

In about two years from now I plan to pursue a master’s degree, but I am yet to make up my mind concerning my future area of specialization. So, at the moment, I would like to take some time out of academics to have a different life experience, and to have time to calmly reflect on my future academic/professional orientation. To this end, I think spending a year abroad would be particularly interesting.

My first language is, of course, Luganda, second is Kiswahili, and I am also fluent in English. I started learning English in primary school, and it was also the language of instruction in the secondary school I attended. I have in addition been taking courses taught in English at university.
I speak an intermediate level of French. I began learning it in high school.
I am particularly interested in experiencing family life in Canada, since it offers a cultural context that is undoubtedly different from mine. For this reason, I would very much like to find a nice family to live with and work for in Canada. When I was in High school we used to study geography focusing on North America probably on the Canadian Prairies and British Columbia, and this is where I used to get it right because I loved the topic and country itself.

When it es to child care experience, I have looked after children in both formal and informal contexts. Since 2005, as part of my employment in child care, I Have spent 5 years working with 5 children's homes in Kampala, Kayunga and Kasese Districts of Uganda. Among others, I provided after-school tuition to children aged between 5 to 15 years. I also organized for them and took part in recreational indoor and outdoor activities: we sang, danced, played games, role played, drew, painted, and narrated stories. We also visited the public library, the local animal park, went out on picnics and a camping trip. I have experience in child pediatric counseling for a period of 3 years and I assure you that I can help the young kids and teens to grow up while shaped of their problems. As part of my degree I did child psychology and I well experienced in giving them the necessary care and support wherever they need it. I also have a certificate and experience in Early Childhood Development.

I have helped my parents look after my brother and sisters since birth. Although my looking after them is now restricted to my work vacations, as a youth, I was nevertheless much more involved in caring for them on a daily basis. In addition, my two younger siblings, also spend a lot of time playing with our neighbour's 5 children (aged 3 and 9 years), so from time to time I find myself in their ever animated pany. I can fortably say that I sincerely enjoy spending time with children. I can work for longer hours depending on the family situation and I am strong to do any work at the family home.

When it es to leisure, I take pleasure in the simple things in life. I enjoy being outdoors, being with my friends, Making adventures, forest walks, camping, riding bicycles, going for walks, visiting places I have not been to, and swimming, I am good at playing soccer. I also enjoy designing the pound. Did I already mention that I love to read and write? I am writing a book with a title; the “AFRICAN CHILD IS IN DANGER”. Whoever wants a copy I can give it to you for free to understand what I mean here in my book?

As far as preferences are concerned, I am looking for a live-in arrangement with a host family that would be happy to have me stay with and work for them for at least 1 or 2 years and can help me in processing my visa and meeting my travel expenses from Uganda to Canada. I would also prefer looking after children aged between 6 months to 17 years.

I would be happy to have the opportunity to speak with you: to answer whatever questions you may have about me or my childcare experiences; to learn more about your family; your interests and to know more about what you expect from the au pair arrangement.

Thank you very much for your interest in my application!
I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely,

Ssebuliba Naluswa
