Letter to the family

Dear future host family,
I‘m currently still in school. I want to live abroad as an au-pair after graduating at the beginning of July 2025 and experience what it‘s like to live in another family in another country. I would be able to start by the end of july or beginning of august. I‘m a very creative person, I love to travel and find out what life is like in another culture.

My first language is german. I have been learning English since 5th grade ( 7 years now) and speak it fluently. I will also have one of my final exams in school in English. I participated in an exchange to Australia for 6 weeks and lived with a host family there. I went to school there and experienced what it’s like doing everyday life in English. I studied Spanish for 3 years (not for the last two years) in school and therefore have basic knowledge. I also learnd latin 5 years in school even though that might not be as helpful for communicating anymore.

I'm looking forward to having a great time, meet wonderful people and have a host family that excepts me as an extra family member during the time I'm there. I also want to get to know more about the country I'm staying in and visit as much places as posible.

I don't have my driving license yet, but I'm taking the last couple courses right now and will get in within the next few months.

Experience

I would like to become an au-pair, because I like to get to know what living in different countries is like. While travelling already already gives you a great impression, I feel like, it can’t show you the full picture like living with a family from that country. That’s one reason why I feel being an au-pair is the best option for me. The other one is that I really like to work and spend my time with children and hopefully with people that will start to feel like family.

I don't have any experience as an au-pair yet, but I do have some when it generally comes to taking care of children.
I was a babysitter for three kids (1,2,4) for a year at age 14 (they went to full time daycare after that). I spend two hours a week with them, while their mom prepared for the week or spend quality time with one of her kids.
I have two youger cousins (now 2 and 5) that I spend quite alot of time with and I really enjoy it. We just play a lot and go for example to the playground.
This summer I was a kids camp leader (5 days from 8am to 5pm), for which I got a three weekend long training. The kids were between 7 and 11 years old. My job there was to prepare breakfast and snacks, do some crafts and just play with them and take care nothing bad happens.
