Letter to the family

Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Alondra, and I’m a 27-year-old Australian-Guatemalan woman with a background in teaching, childcare, and social work. I’m currently living in Guatemala after spending the past few years teaching English to both children and adults. I speak fluent English and Spanish, and I love creating a warm, supportive environment for kids to learn and grow.

I’m applying to become an Au Pair or Live-in Tutor because I genuinely enjoy working with children and learning about new cultures. I see this opportunity as a meaningful cultural exchange, not just a job. I want to build a real connection with your family, help your children feel supported and confident in their learning, and contribute positively to your home life.

You should host me because I’m reliable, caring, adaptable, and easy to live with. I’ve worked with kids of all ages—as a teacher, tutor, and volunteer. I also have experience supporting families through my background in social work, so I understand the importance of patience, structure, and kindness in a home. I’m responsible, tidy, and happy to help with light housework if needed.

I believe I’m highly qualified for this position because I have:

1. 3+ years of experience teaching English to children

2. TEFL certification

3. A strong work ethic and love for children

4. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish), which can support learning or communication at home

5. Experience living abroad and adapting to new environments respectfully and positively

Thank you for considering my application. I would be honoured to become part of your family, and I’m excited about the possibility of sharing daily life and learning together.

Warm regards,
Alondra

Experience

My experience in teaching and working with children has prepared me well for this role. I have been teaching English for over 3 years, working with children and adults of various ages and backgrounds. In my current role, I teach young ESL students, and I’ve learned how to create engaging and fun lessons that help them improve their language skills. I’ve also worked with kids on a one-on-one basis, providing them with a safe, nurturing environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas.

Additionally, I have little nephews who I have been looking after and caring for since they were babies. This hands-on experience has taught me how to nurture young children, manage their needs, and support their growth in a loving and patient environment.

My background in social work has further strengthened my ability to understand the needs of children and provide emotional support when necessary. I am experienced in managing various needs, from academic challenges to emotional and social development, making me well-equipped to handle the diverse responsibilities of an au pair.

Why I Want to Become an Au Pair & Live-in Tutor Abroad:

I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to become an Au Pair and Live-in Tutor abroad because it combines my love for teaching with my passion for cultural exchange. Living with a host family provides a unique opportunity to truly immerse myself in the local culture, learn new languages, and gain a deeper understanding of family life in different parts of the world.

Being an au pair allows me to share my knowledge and skills while also learning from the experiences of my host family. The idea of living in a new environment, helping children with their learning, and contributing to a family’s everyday life truly appeals to me. I want to help children grow, not just academically but also emotionally and socially, while building lifelong relationships with my host family.

Additionally, I’m passionate about language teaching and see the position as an opportunity to provide tutoring in English while also learning new languages myself. I believe that teaching is a two-way experience, and I’m excited to share knowledge while absorbing the culture and language of my host country.
