Letter to the family

Hello!

My name is Emily and I am finishing my Student Teaching in December 2024. I will graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Language, Literacy, and Cultural studies. This includes being able to teach Kindergarten through Eighth grade, be a Reading Specialist, and a Multilingual specialist where I work with students whose first language is not English. In addition to working with students in the Elementary Grades, I have been a Nanny for a 6-month-old baby and children 2-4 years old, and I have experience being a Camp Counselor where I also worked with teenagers. Becuase of my extensive work with children I can work with any age and jump right in and assist.

The reason I want to be an Au Pair is my mom is from Spain and growing up in America it was frowned upon to speak a language other than English. Because of this, my mom stopped teaching me Spanish after the age of 3 and I never became fluent. I can speak at an Elementary Level and would like to improve my Spanish so that when I work with Spanish Speakers as a teacher I can communicate with them and their families.

I am excited to continue my learning of Spanish and Culture while getting to help assist with children and provide them with an additional adult in the house that they can rely on for support.

Experience

My experience as an Au Pair would be to assist my host family in any way I can while also attending a class to continue my learning of Spanish. When I traveled to Spain throughout my childhood and now it is nothing like I had ever experienced. The people and the ambiance are something that you cannot find in America. Therefore it would be wonderful to also do some sight-seeing or get to know the city or town I would be staying in. However, I am aware that my dusty as an Au Pair comes first, and will gladly assist in any way I can.
