Letter to the family

Hello
My name is Caoimhe. I have just turned 28 years old and have spent the past 4 and a half years post studying, working in a 24 hours a day living facility for adults with learning disability, mental health issues, ‘behaviours which may challenge’, and physical health issues. I have undergone many trainings through this work and am comfortable providing care and support for a wide range of people and conditions. I have dealt with such a wide variety of complex situations within my current leadership/management role of this care that I am confident that I will have no issues adapting or reacting to any scenario. In addition I am comfortable managing medications, as through my current role I manage them daily and am qualified as a trainer in the administration of medications in a social care setting.

I would absolutely love the opportunity to become an au pair in a foreign country as I have such a passion for travel and experiencing new cultures and ways of living. I also aspire to further my foreign language acquisition as I do not have many opportunities for this in my home country.

Experience

I currently hold a management position in a ‘supported living’ scheme in Northern Ireland and prior to this I held a ‘support worker’ position. Through my four and a half years working in this field I have been involved in 24/7 care and support of vulnerable adults (18 years and up). This care and support ranges vastly depending on the individual and follows a ‘person centred’ approach. I have experience in working with learning disability, mental health issues, behaviours which may challenge, safeguarding vulnerable people, managing medication, personal care, general household tasks (ie cooking, cleaning, basic maintenance), support with feeding, support in the community (ie to go shopping, attending day placements, attending appointments, and leisure activities), and much more.
