Letter to the family
Dear Host Family,
My name is Fiona, and I am a 22-year-old student from Switzerland. This summer, I gratuated with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Bern. I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to become an Au Pair and to immerse myself in a new culture while doing something I truly love—spending time with children.
Who I Am
I come from a multicultural background and grew up in a home where Cantonese was spoken. While I understand the language quite well, I am not yet fluent in speaking it and hope to improve this skill during my time as an Au Pair. My multilingual background also includes German and English, which I speak fluently. As a person, I am warm, empathetic, and enthusiastic about creating meaningful connections with people, especially children.
Outside of my studies, I enjoy being active and creative. I love reading, crafting, and spending time outdoors. These activities often inspire fun and engaging ways to connect with kids, whether through storytelling, art projects, or exploring nature together.
Why I Want to Become an Au Pair
Becoming an Au Pair aligns perfectly with my interests and career aspirations. My academic background in psychology, particularly in understanding child development, has deepened my passion for working with children and supporting their growth. I believe that caring for children is a unique and fulfilling way to contribute to a family while learning about a new way of life.
Moreover, I am eager to broaden my horizons by experiencing life in a different cultural setting. This exchange is not just about sharing my knowledge and skills but also about learning from your family’s traditions, values, and daily life.
Why You Should Host Me
As someone who has experience in both childcare and education, I bring a strong sense of responsibility and a genuine love for helping children thrive. Over the years, I have worked as a babysitter, tutor, and even a substitute teacher. These roles have taught me patience, adaptability, and creative problem-solving, skills I will bring to your family.
I am also proactive in ensuring that children feel safe, supported, and engaged. Whether it’s helping with homework, organizing activities, or simply being a listening ear, I am dedicated to creating a positive and nurturing environment.
Why I Qualify for the Position
My combination of professional experience and personal passion for childcare makes me an ideal candidate for this role. Having worked with children of different ages and needs, I understand how to adapt my approach to suit their personalities and developmental stages.
Furthermore, my multicultural background and language skills allow me to connect with children and families in a unique way. I am confident that my openness, respect for different cultures, and desire to learn will make this experience enriching for both of us.
Thank you for considering my application. I am looking forward to the possibility of becoming a part of your family, contributing to your children’s growth, and sharing unforgettable memories together.
Warm regards,
Fiona
