Letter to the family

Hi there!
My name is Ruby, I am 20 years old and am from Melbourne, Australia. I am currently living in Copenhagen for my university exchange semester, where I am studying architecture and urban design. I am looking to pursue a career in the construction industry when I return to Australia, so am loving getting to know this city and experiencing Danish and European design in person. I love travelling and have thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to visit numerous countries in my spare time (it’s much easier travelling between countries here than from Australia!) Once my semester has finished in June, I plan on travelling around Europe for a a few weeks before hopefully finding a wonderful family to be an Au Pair for. I would love to find a family in France as I love the country, culture and speak the language intermediately. I can understand a small amount of Italian too but I studied French all through high school and would jump at the opportunity to speak it regularly and improve further. I’m not opposed to becoming an Au Pair elsewhere however, I love experiencing new people and places so would be happy and open to relocate anywhere really!

Experience

I have several years of experience babysitting, having worked with numerous families on a periodic basis, typically when they have daytime or evening engagements to attend. Additionally, I have had more consistent roles with certain families, including one who’s 8-year-old son I looked after 3-4 times a week, picking him up from school and doing homework/other activities with him. I also have first aid training and am familiar with the use of an epipen, as my younger brother is anaphylactic. Before moving to Copenhagen I also regularly babysat a set of 10-year-old twins, one of whom has cerebral palsy, therefore I am familiar with caring for children with more specific needs. Finally I have also previously completed work experience at a childcare centre in Melbourne, where I supported other staff with caring for children as young as a year old to 3-4-year-olds over the course of a few months. I truly enjoy working with children and am excited about the opportunity to connect with kids overseas. I really love sharing my own experiences with them yet also know how they can teach me so much in return.
