Letter to the family

Hello! My name is Lauren and I am a 25-year old American woman seeking an au pair opportunity in a Spanish-speaking country. I come from a large extended family and grew up caring for my cousins, which provided ideal training for later babysitting experiences. Starting in middle school I began babysitting for families in my local area, and have never stopped! I have nannied in Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Boston for children from several months to 12-years old. In addition to my desire to work with children and families, I am eager to explore new parts of the world and develop greater proficiency in Spanish. I have studied Spanish in school for many years but have never had the opportunity to live abroad and use the language on a regular basis. I am currently seeking an au pair and/or caregiving experience that would enable me to practice Spanish while working closely with parents to support their childrens' wellbeing.

Experience

I have worked with children of a range of ages and in a range of settings. This includes working as a full-time nanny for a family with three children ages 6-11. In this role I was responsible for getting the children to and from school, preparing and serving meals, doing basic chores around the house, and ensuring that the children were safe and occupied. I have also babysat for newborns and infants under two years old and am very comfortable in that role. In high school I spent my summers as a camp counselor and worked with children between the ages of 8 and 15. In this role I was responsible for leading activities and ensuring children were adequately engaged. Currently, I work with a number of families and provide as-needed babysitting services.

About me

I am passionate about working with youth and hope to became a therapist for children struggling with mental health challenges such as anxiety. Thus, my long-term goal is to pursue a degree in Social Work. I currently manage a research lab focused on the treatment of anxiety and depression, a position that has required a lot of responsibility, discipline, and clear communication.
