Letter to the family

Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Siri, and I’m a 30-year-old teacher from New York City with over six years of experience in education and childcare. I’ve worked with children in a variety of settings—classrooms, camps, and homes—and I’ve always found joy in supporting their growth, creativity, and confidence.

I’m applying to become an Au Pair and Live-in Tutor because I’m passionate about meaningful cultural exchange and love the idea of becoming part of a family's daily life. I’ve always been drawn to Italy—its language, culture, food, and family-centered values. I hope to improve my Italian while sharing my own language and background in a way that is natural, fun, and educational for your children. This feels like a beautiful way to exchange experiences and support one another. I have an EU passport, and can work and live freely!

As a native English speaker and a trained teacher, I bring a calm, nurturing presence, and I am confident in supporting children’s academic needs as well as their emotional and creative development. I would be happy to help with schoolwork, reading, writing, and English language practice. I'm also comfortable assisting with light housework, cooking, and keeping routines running smoothly.

Outside of teaching, I love writing, ceramics, visual arts, and reading—interests I’m always excited to share with children. I believe in making space for imagination, kindness, and self-expression in everyday life.

I would be honored to join a family who is looking for someone dependable, caring, and respectful to support their children and home. I hope to bring warmth, creativity, and a strong sense of responsibility to your family’s life.

Thank you for considering me. I look forward to the possibility of learning and growing together.

Warmly,
Siri

Experience

I’ve spent the past six years working in Montessori classrooms, and that experience has shaped not only how I teach, but how I see children—as capable, curious, and deserving of respect. I’ve led multi-age classrooms, supported academic and emotional development, and worked closely with families to guide children through key developmental stages. What I love about Montessori is its balance between freedom and structure—it empowers children to take ownership of their learning while offering them the guidance they need to thrive.

Becoming an Au Pair and Live-in Tutor abroad is a way for me to connect my passion for education with my love of culture and family life. Rome, in particular, feels like the perfect place—both because of my personal family ties and because it’s the birthplace of the Montessori method. Living in the city that inspired Maria Montessori’s philosophy would be incredibly meaningful to me, and I’d be excited to continue living those values while supporting children one-on-one in a home setting.

This opportunity also gives me a chance to immerse myself in Italian language and culture, contribute my skills, and become a part of a family’s rhythm—something I value deeply.
