Letter to the family

My name is Luke, I am a 28 y/o male from Australia and I would love the opportunity to be a part of your lovely family.
I am moving to Geneva at the beginning of March to begin an internship with the United Nations - Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The internship is six months in duration with my start date 2 March (March – end of July). The internship is unpaid and I am responsible to cover all my costs for the 6-month duration.
A little about me, I am from a regional country town in Australia but have been living in Canberra for the last 10 years (Australia’s capital city – it surprises many people that it is not Sydney or Melbourne). I moved to Canberra to join the Army and complete my undergraduate degree. Unfortunately, I was medically discharged so I enrolled in a Masters of international relations before landing a job with the Department of Defence. I work for Defence for a little over three years before I wanted a change in direction and realised I wanted to apply my skills in the humanitarian aid and development sector (hence the UN internship!).

Experience

So why should you hire me as your au pair?
I am great with kids and would relish the opportunity to look after your children (be a ‘big brother’ type figure). I have two little nieces (ages one and three) and have extensive experience babysitting them.
Additionally, I have a lot of experience with teenagers as part of my volunteer youth mentor position. The program is through MensLink (see link below) and is essentially a ‘big brother’ type program. As part of this program, I have undergone rigorous security checks including Australia’s National Police Check and Working With Vulnerable People’s check (links below).
I also have experience in tutoring primary and secondary age students, so I am more than happy to assist with homework as part of my duties.
Furthermore, I have extensive experience in living in a shared-living environment and upholding high living standards (a legacy from my days in the military and countless room inspections!). Therefore, I will be a great asset in general house-upkeep and duties. I actually quite enjoy doing chores – particularly ironing (weird I know!).
Finally, I am a non-smoker, full motor vehicle licence holder and native English speaker. I currently do not speak a second language but would love the opportunity to learn whilst I am in Geneva.
