Letter to the family
My name is Agnes, and I am 18 years old. I live in Wales (UK) and after sitting my A-Level exams this summer, I plan to take a gap year. So far in my life, I have not looked after many children (being the youngest of 6 myself). However, I learn things quickly and have no doubt that I would soon become the perfect match for your family.
I would consider myself an independent person who doesn’t mind doing things alone. However, should anyone ever need anything of me, I will always make time to be of help. In new situations, I am often reserved, however when surrounded by friends and family, you will often see me bubbling with energy!
I have three brothers and two sisters - all of whom are older than me. My parents are both doctors and we live together in our family home in Cardiff, UK. I would consider myself an introvert, but I still have many friends who are dear to me. I do not have a boyfriend.
I am currently in Year 13 in the UK. I study Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Economics A-Levels, which I will be finished with by the end of June 2025. After that, my gap year begins. I am keen to stay with my host family for at least 4 months, but would need to be back in the UK for university starting in September 2026.
I have a deep love for classical music. I have been playing instruments since I was 4, and I am currently working towards my LRSM diploma on the saxophone. Through being a chorister, I was exposed to choral music from an early age and it is something that I am still passionate about (I sing soprano). I also play the clarinet in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales. If your children have an interest in music, I would be keen to help!
At school, I enjoy playing Squash and Cricket. I also like hiking and even completed the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. I love meeting up with friends and look forward to all the new friends I make on this adventure.
Although I am the youngest sibling, I have managed to get some experience of babysitting. I have often been asked to baby sit my cousins, who then were ages 4, 6, 9 and 10. Through choirs and orchestras, I have also made myself an ‘older sister’ to children more in the teenage years. I am excited for the year I will spend with you, and look forward to learn how to look after your child(ren) best.
My native language is English. My mother is German and so I have grown up with German being spoken in the house. I would say that my spoken German is confident, however my written German isn’t… I have passed my Spanish B1 exam and am keen to learn more.
I want to be an au pair so that I can learn to look after children and build relationships with a host family whilst also exploring the world and having an adventure before going to uni. I am already a very responsible 18 year old, but I know that some time away from home with the duty of care to children will prepare me fully for adulthood.
I look forward to embracing the culture of wherever I may end up. Whilst also caring for the children, I would also be open to help them with Mathematics, English and Music, and would also strive to become someone they could count on.
I don’t have any allergies!
