Letter to the family

Hello host family!
My name is Haley. By the time I meet you I will be a university graduate with an English major and three minors. I love working with kids; I have been a camp counselor at two summer camps (this upcoming summer will make 3). I am outgoing, optimistic, independent, and ambitious. I am a meticulous planner: I love spreadsheets! I am organized and tidy. My family has moved quite a bit; I adapt quickly to new situations and love meeting new people. I spent my junior year of college living and studying in London. I fell in love with traveling, experiencing new cultures, and meeting great new friends from around the world. I'm interested in moving abroad again and my love for kids led me to the au pair experience. I am excited to embark on a new adventure with your family!

Experience

My main experience with kids is at sleep away summer camp. I was a counselor for 9 weeks at Canyon Creek Summer Camp and facilitated the daily activities of my cabin and other children. We played sports, went hiking, sang campfire songs, made tie-dye: all aspects of a traditional American summer camp. I also was a counselor at Camp Kesem Chestnut Hill. Camp Kesem is a national organization of camps run by college students that serve children whose parents have been affected by cancer. As a counselor I facilitated regular activities like lake day, water wars, and arts and crafts and additionally participated in the group sessions geared towards helping the kids process their experience of having a parent currently undergoing cancer treatment or having a parent who has passed away from cancer. This summer, I will be teaching English at TEFL.TP (Teaching English as a Foreign Language through Theatre and Play) summer camps in Italy. I also have babysitting experience with children as young as 1 and a half years old. I have also mentored older kids, even up to 18 years old.
