Hi! My name is Millie, I’m 17 years old and from Chicago, Illinois, and I’ll be 18 in April 2025. I’m planning to take a gap year before starting university in the fall of 2026 and hope to spend that time as an au pair in Europe. I’ve always loved working with kids and have years of experience—currently, I work as a swim instructor teaching children ages 4 months to 12 years, babysit regularly, and volunteer weekly at an elementary school. I also grew up helping care for my younger brother. I want to become an au pair because I’m excited to immerse myself in a new culture, improve my language skills, and make a meaningful difference in a child’s life. I’m a positive, creative, and responsible person who values connection, and I would love to become part of a welcoming host family. With my strong childcare background, love for kids, and enthusiasm for cultural exchange, I believe I would be a great fit for your family.

Experience

Although I haven’t been an au pair before, I’ve spent the past few years gaining valuable experience caring for children in a variety of settings—from teaching swim lessons to infants and young kids, to helping elementary students with homework as a volunteer. These roles have taught me how to be patient, responsible, and adaptable. I’d love to become an au pair abroad because I see it as a unique opportunity to step outside my comfort zone, experience daily life in a new culture, and build strong relationships with a host family. I’m especially excited to be part of a child’s everyday world—whether that’s walking them to school, playing games, or helping with bedtime routines—while also learning and growing through the experience myself.
