Letter to the family

Hello! I am an Australian college graduate with a degree in film and television who is currently working in hospitality while occasionally travelling the world! I come from a large family of which I am the eldest of, and all my life I've been a role model, second parent and go-to babysitter. I have grown up surrounded by a large number of cousins and close family, maintaining a close relationship with them as years have gone by. I have many various circles of friends from different areas in my life that I treasure, and I enjoy catching up over coffee when I can. I've grown up in a Christian household all my life and I regularly attend church, I believe that service is one of the biggest acts of love and we should all treat others the way we ourselves would want to be treated. I would love to work in childcare, especially overseas as travel is also a huge passion of mine. Particularly the United States, New York as that city is my favourite place in the world. I love the USA and have travelled there on a few occasions and it's always exciting. To live with a family, care for children and experience their daily lives and culture is a dream of mine I'm hoping comes true this year.

Experience

I have had various experiences in childcare ranging from odd babysitting jobs, regular weekly experience and work experience during high school. I have babysat for all of my aunties, watching my cousins each week and looking after them. I've also had experience in working in a kindergarten with a large group of children to care for, as I was a teenager at the time there were a couple adults there leading the class however I was given a lot of responsibilities and cared for the children as they would. Through my workplace I have also had childcare experience, making connections with customers at the cafe i worked at who needed occasional babysitting, would contact me as I spoke of loving childcare. They had children ranging from age 6-12 and would be a night her or there while the parents were out. My most recent childcare experience has been with my current employers daughter, I would care for her one day a week while her mother worked and she was 4 months old at the time. I did this every week for multiple months until they hired a full time nanny as I was employed as a barista at the cafe at the time, but If the nanny is unavailable she will ask me to fill in here and there and her daughter is just over 2 years old now and we have a very close relationship because of it.

I have also had experience caring for children with special needs. My cousin has Down Syndrome and I used to look after him weekly for a period of 6 months, it would be in the evenings when his parents had a social gathering. Along with his 5 other siblings I would feed them dinner, do some kind of art activity with the younger children and help the older ones with their homework before they would all go to bed. Years later I cared for a boy with ADHD and his sister, during the pandemic when schools were online I would sit through his classes with him and aid him with the classwork, keeping him focused and well behaved in class.

Like mentioned before, I would love to Au Pair in the USA as I have always enjoyed my time there when visiting and the culture is one that interests me.
