Although it may sound strange, I've spent more than half of my life caring for others. It all started when my sister had her first daughter at a very young age, and at only 9 years old, without knowing anything about children, I became her rock. I learned to change diapers, prepare bottles, and calm tantrums on the fly. By the time my second niece was born, I was almost an expert: I picked them up from daycare after school, did their homework, and watched them until my sister returned from work.

But life presented me with another test: my great-grandmother fell seriously ill, and since no one else could care for her, I took on that role as well. At 15, I already knew how to give her her medicine, help her move around, and even cook her favorite food, all while still keeping an eye on my nieces. They were difficult years, but they taught me that strength and affection have no gender or age.

Two years ago, my sister had her third child, and I was there again. I picked him up when he cried, rocked him to sleep, and today, at 2 years old, he runs to me as if I were his second parent, since he doesn't have one. That connection with children isn't learned in books; it's earned through patience and dedication.

That's why I want to be an au pair because I know what it means to care for children responsibly and joyfully. I'm not the typical "babysitter" who plays for a while and leaves; I understand that children need routine, loving boundaries, and someone to listen. And if there are older adults in your family who need help, I'll be ready for that too.
