Letter to the family

Hi families!

I'm one of eight children from poor rural America. Growing up in a big family under less than ideal circumstances, I learned to value community and self-sufficiency simultaneously. I am caring, amiable, resourceful, and independent. As an adult, I've travelled all across the U.S., working at music festivals, hiking long-distance trails, and saying yes to every adventure. I've never met a body of water I didn't jump in---not even a puddle. I've never met somebody who had less without offering some of what I have---even if it's just to share my lunch.

I'm ready to explore the world, improve my knowledge of different languages and cultures, and make new friends. I have been a live-in nanny before and gained family for life, so au pairing is a natural fit for me right now. I have extensive childcare experience infancy - teenaged, and I am especially drawn to spending time with children because they experience life with fresh eyes and a beginner's mind. I love what they help me see about myself and the world, and I love the chance to teach them what I have learned and be a part of their journey.

I have a bit of french and my lease is up in August, so I'm mainly looking at french speaking placements for the fall of 2025, but I could be open to other options too!

Experience

I started changing my sisters' diapers as a four-year-old, and I skipped church to help out in the nursery throughout grade school. I started babysitting for pay in middle school, and since then have always been ready to lend a helping hand to any parents in my life. I am particularly suited to be an au pair because I have previously formed close relationships as a full time or live in nanny to two families, both of whom I feel a part of for life. As an 18-year-old I lived with a friend for 5 weeks taking care of an infant and toddler, and as a 19-year-old I babysat a six-year-old and an eight-year-old full-time during the covid pandemic for the duration of a school year. I cleaned up more messes than I'd like to remember, read every nursery tale under the sun, and soothed lots of tears. Years later, those relationships remain some of the most important of my life, and I'm very proud of how those kids grow.

So while I'm still exploring and not quite ready to settle down yet, I'd love to use my skills to help add even more love and light into another family's home.
