Letter to the family

Hello, my name is Sarah Isela . I'm a 27 year old woman who enjoys meeting new people and discovering new cafes for conversations over coffee. I'm interested in becoming an Au Pair & Live-in Tutor because I enjoy investing in people and helping them learn something new. I enjoy experiencing new cultures and love being around languages outside of English. Last year, I decided I wanted to take a trip to Japan, and spent the eight months leading up to my trip studying Japanese with private tutors. Taking this time to study the language, although a short amount of time, was invaluable. I want others to experience a similar joy to enhancing their own English skills. When I myself am the student learning a new language, in enhances the quality of my teaching others English. It's important to me to always continue learning in life, but also give back what I can as a teacher. I received three certificates for teaching English: Teaching English to Young Learners, Teaching Business English, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I have some experience tutoring elementary aged students as well as adult students.

Outside of academics, I have been a certified American Red Cross lifeguard since 2013. This has given me a lot of experience in responding to emergencies, first aid, and water rescues, as well as life skills, such as customer service, administrative work, and critical thinking. I also have years of experience as a babysitter and nanny to children (babies, elementary age, and teenagers). I am a certified National Academy of Spots Medicine (NASM) personal trainer, and value taking care of my own physical health as well as educating others on physical health and wellness.

Experience

I love experiencing new cultures and being around other languages, it's quite a comfortable environment for me. When I attended my university, I enrolled in the Language House, a language immersion program where students live in an apartment building and only speak their target language in their apartment. There are over 12 languages spoken in the building, and I lived in an apartment that spoke only Spanish. It was an amazing experience to improve my Spanish skills in my apartment, but also be exposed to other languages in the building. I think I would enjoy an environment where I am helping someone improve their English skills while also being around a foreign language.
