Letter to the family

Dear Parents,

How can I help you out? I believe being a parent is one of the hardest jobs in the world and I would like to offer my assistance. I have a certificate in Early Learning and Child Care and have been identified by the Alberta Children and Youth Services as a Child Development Worker. Most of my experience has been with young children however my last job I was nannying school-aged children.

I believe in play-based childcare because children learn best through exploration and self-discovery. Ideally, I would like to take your kids out on adventures to discover the world instead of staying indoors all the time. However, COVID has made this a little more challenging. I think culture and family are very important in the development and upbringing of a child's moral standards. I am patient, attentive, enthusiastic yet firm and conscientious. Caregivers have a very significant role in a child's life, and children should be protected and nurtured by appropriate, sensitive, and loving methods to develop a child's whole self.

It is important that I have my own space and separation from work time and my own time. I am currently attending bible school at Capernwray Harbour and am looking to relocate. I am available halfway through April as that is when my school ends. I have a driver's license and my own vehicle. I also have a portfolio if you are interested in seeing more of the work I've done.

Experience

I've worked in a daycare, day home, and recently worked as a nanny. I clean, do laundry, and have homeschooled three out of five children. I'm not the most confident in the kitchen but I am willing to learn! I would like to become another member of your family, helping you out as you go on in your day-to-day life. I don't want to impose or intrude but make your load a little lighter.

My most fulfilling role as a caregiver was at a day home. A day home is a daycare but privately owned, run out of a caregiver’s home. I worked independently while my boss took her maternity leave. I found this experience very enjoyable as I was given the freedom to create an atmosphere. I was able to choose the kind of experience I wanted the children to have. I wanted the children to be able to express themselves, to be silly, and to acknowledge their likes and dislikes. I have found in some facilities the individualism of a child is taken away because the surroundings are overwhelming. At the day home I constructed stimulating experiments as well as taught the names and sounds of letters, numbers and even worked on addition/subtraction. I found this experience one of the best because I was able to watch my kids develop and grow. I felt like a family at the end of it all.
