Letter to the family

My name is Chamiela, I’m 27 years old and I come from Madagascar. If I had to describe my personality in three words, I would say: thankful, respectful, and warm. I’m an outgoing and positive person who enjoys cooking and dancing in my free time. I have a deep passion for travel, adventure, and spending time in nature or walking in parks.

My personality is a balance between being soft and strong, which helps me connect very well with children. As the oldest of a big family with six siblings, I naturally developed a strong sense of responsibility, patience, and care. I also worked for four years with an international program in my home country, which allowed me to travel to different regions of Madagascar and work with many children from various backgrounds.

My dream has always been to discover the world to speak different languages, taste new foods, see new landscapes, and dance to music from all over the globe. Being part of the au pair program has been a wonderful opportunity for me to live that dream. I am so grateful to be here in the USA and to share my culture and experience with children.

Now, I would love to continue this beautiful adventure in another country before turning 30, before starting the next chapter of my adult life thinking about building a family and long-term goals. I’m excited to keep learning, growing, and sharing joy with children around the world.

Experience

I was lucky to care for three young children in my first host family here in the U.S. a pair of 2 year old twins and their older 4 year old sibling. During the day, while their parents were at work, I was responsible for the twins.

Each morning, I prepared their breakfast and got them ready for the day. After they ate, we usually went outside to the playground for fresh air and playtime. When we came back in, it was time for a snack, followed by indoor activities like arts and crafts, coloring, and free play. Around midday, I prepared and served their lunch, which often included healthy meals like chicken, eggs, meatballs, burgers, cabbage, and other nutritious options.

After lunch, we read a book together to help them wind down, and then I put them down for their nap. Once they woke up, we enjoyed more active games hide and seek, running around, or other playful activities. I really enjoyed their energy and loved encouraging them to stay active and joyful.

I also cared for a strong willed 2 year old toddler in another family. She was quite challenging at first, but after two weeks of patience, play, and connection, we built a strong bond. That experience taught me the importance of consistency, understanding, and flexibility when working with different personalities.

What I can offer as an au pair:

Preparing meals for the children

Organizing and planning age-appropriate activities

Doing the children’s laundry and keeping their spaces tidy

Taking them to activities and appointments

what I can't offer immediately

One thing I am currently limited in is driving. At the moment, I cannot drive the children to school or other places independently. However, I am very open and motivated to improve this skill. If your family is willing to support me with access to a car for practice, I am more than ready to work on gaining confidence and ability behind the wheel. I understand how important driving can be for a host family, and I’m committed to learning if the opportunity is available.
