Letter to the family

Hi. My name is Laura. I am a 22 year old student from Ireland studying Chemistry in Trinity College Dublin. I come from a small family, with just one brother, but I have loads of cousins. We are very family orientated and spend loads of times together, such as going on winter ski holidays and summer road trips with the cousins. I have had a love for sports and being outdoors since I was very young. When I was younger. I played ever sport that i could possibly sign up for, but sadly now I do not have so much time. However, I do partake in both badminton, tennis and skiing in university. I also love going for long mountain hikes with my golden retriever, Rhea.
At the moment, I am in my third year of university studying chemistry. When I was younger, I had ambitions to become an accountant, however in my latter years in secondary school my love for chemistry started to grow. Despite that, I decided to go into Children and General Nursing, as I love helping and being around children. Though I loved doing this course very much, I missed learning about Chemistry and performing experiments, so I decided to change course and since then I've been studying chemistry.
I have a wide range of experience with young children. While in secondary school, I was an avid hockey player. As part of an extracurricular activity, I helped coach the national schools hockey team for a year. This thought me a great deal of patience, as well as the innocence and free living of children. I've also spent many years babysitting the neighbours children. At around 14 years of age, I began to babysit my neighbours 3 girls, ranging from 2 years old to 6 years old, most weekend evenings. Days minding them ranged from walks over to the local park to play in the playground, followed by a treat of ice-cream. Some days we would do some arts and crafts, as well as a movie night some Saturdays. Over the years, I have developed a wonderful relationship with those girls thats I cherish very much. This last summer (2020) I nannied my cousin's 2 young babies. At the time I started, they were 5 months old and 18 months old. I gained lots of experience and knowledge minding them as it was my first time two really young children. It was incredibly special sharing a lot of their first moments with them, such as witnessing the youngest first time crawling and watching the both grow and flourish with each day passing. While it was tiring some days, it was incredibly rewarding and an experience that I can't wait to unfold with both any future family, as well as my own future family. I enjoyed it so much that since then I've been contemplating about doing Au Pair/ Nanning abroad for summer of 2021! I have chosen to apply to countries abroad as I have a profound love for new experiences and learning new cultures.
I believe that I would be a perfect Au Pair/Nanny for your family as I have a great rapport with children, have a wide range of knowledge and I am very easy going. I would be able to teach your children some English and knowledge from where I am from but at the same time I would be able to learn from them, which I find most exciting. I am very eager to learn your language and fully immerse myself in your way of living and being. I am looking forward to learning about your cuisine and perhaps I could share some of what make here in Ireland.

Experience

I have wide experience in child minding. Previously, I have babysat my neighbours three girls for about 6/7 years. When I started the girls ranged in ages from 2-6 years old. I tended to mind them in the evening time, where I would give them their dinner, do some arts and crafts, play some board games, watch a movie sometimes and then put them to bed. I always made sure that the house was cleaner for the parents than what is was when I arrived. Sometime I would mind them during the days, so when it was nice outside, I'd bring them over to the local park or play outside in the garden. I have also babysat for another neighbour from time to time who had a 2 and for year old. I only started minding them during 2020 as the parents were working at home and needed some help with the young children. Tasks that I did for them included feeding their children, bringing them on walks and playing with them. My most recent child minding experience was during summer of 2020 when i minded my cousins two young boys, aged 5 months and 18 months. I tended to mind the boys from the morning till the late afternoon. Tasks included making food for the babies, putting them down for their naps, cleaning up the playroom, taking them for daily walks, playing with them and trying to teach them new words, etc.
I would really love to become an Au Pair/Nanny abroad as I love new experiences and learning new cultures. I am eager to learn basic communication in a new language. Though I've studied German for 6 years and French for three months, I wouldn't say I am very good at them! However, I loved my time learning them. I do feel that I would pick up a new language more easily while being completely immersed in it and being surrounded by it. I would be able to teach the children some English and knowledge from where I am from but at the same time I would be able to learn from them and that is what I love most.
