Letter to the family

My name is Hunter (you may call me Chasseur or Cazador if you like!) and I'm 21 years old. I'm from the United States, and although I am fortunate enough to have been able to see many parts of my big country, I have spent most of my time in the south. I was born in the "Natural State" of Arkansas; west of the Mississippi River. The town was a city for a state like Arkansas, nestled between the Arkansas River and the hills of the Ozarks. I grew up as an only child with my single-parent mother and I enjoyed my childhood in the rural parts of Arkansas.

After High School, I knew I wanted something different, something that would open up my horizons and allow me to meet people of different backgrounds. I applied for college in Memphis, Tennessee; the so-called "Home of the Blues" and where Elvis Presley had lived decades earlier. Memphis had a lot more people than where I was from and the city was much more diverse. After almost four years, I am now able to graduate with my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and International Relations. I have grown a lot as a person while in Memphis and I believe I am ready now to enter this new portion of my life.

I will admit that I have never been an au pair before, nor have I any experience with this type of work. It is, however, something I take very seriously and something I would much appreciate doing. It is a position that would allow both parties– myself and the child— to grow and develop new lifelong skills. Once in high school, I had to tutor three first-grade students French for over a few months. While these students were able to learn French, I was able to improve on my French and was also able to improve on my caretaking, teaching, and communication skills. I believe being able to become an au pair would have the same outcome and that is why I am applying. Furthermore, as an international relations major, I have studied the intricate systems of our international system and the many countries within our world. Being an au pair would allow me to understand new parts of the world and teach others about my part of the world; something I find very important in contemporary times.

Experience

Unfortunately, given that I am only now graduating from college, I have not had much free-time to develop my experience as an Au Pair / Live-in Tutor. That is not to say that I am ill-prepared to become an au pair, as I believe I have the needed traits and skills to manage this position. I have tutored students before, as well as taken-on a leadership position in a Model United Nations conference in college that has placed me in the position to lead high-school level students in debate and civil conversation.

Truly I would like to become an au pair / Live-in tutor for the positive impact I am able to provide. I would appreciate teaching children the art of English, literature, or even diplomacy. Moreso, being able to become an au pair would also open my path for new opportunities in countries I may like to continue my education in in the future. The beauty of au pair is the international doors it can open for people.
