Letter to the family

Dear host Family,

My name is Leticia (which means happiness) and I am 25 years old. I am originally from Brazil but currently I am living in France. Before that, I lived in the USA for two years and in the Netherlands for one year. This is my fourth year as an Aupair.
In 2016 I got my degree in Languages (Portuguese/English). It has always fascinated me to get to know new cultures, new places, and new people. That was one of the reasons that motivated me to start the Aupair program.

To give you a first impression, I would like to start by telling you about my beliefs and my personality. I would describe myself as a friendly person, easy-going, responsible, patient, open-minded, and flexible. According to my friends, I have a good sense of humor and have been told I have a contagious smile. I enjoy laughing and making other people laugh. I believe in positivity, being kind, and having courage. Most importantly, I believe in love and living life as if we only have today and making it all worth telling tomorrow!

Personally, what I like most to do in my free time is traveling and discovering new places. I wish I could do that all the time.
Times that I am not traveling you can find me lost reading some book, bingeing some Netflix show, thrifting shop on flea markets, hanging out with friends, or practicing some mindfulness. Lately, I have been spending most of my free time studying French. I love taking pictures and film photography is one of my hobbies.

Now I'd like to tell you about my childcare experience. My experience with kids started fourteen years ago when my youngest sister was born. I used to help my mom with basically everything, bathing, feeding, and playing. I gained a lot of experience helping my little sister and that made me realize that I enjoy helping kids which lead me to my second childcare experience, working as a teacher's helper in a preschool. I used to help kids from age 2 to 11 years old. I worked there for about 3 years. Furthermore, I did some babysitting for a friend in 2017 with her newborn daughter. In 2018 I started my Au pair program in the USA, more specifically in Maryland. I was watching a little girl who was 20 months when I started. That was so gratifying seeing her grow up and being part of her development. I stayed a year there and then I decided that I wanted to go somewhere new, so I moved out to San Francisco in California, and there I took care of a 22 months boy and a 4-year-old-girl. That was also very gratifying. I loved the experience of being with the kids in a big city. That was always something new and fun to do with them and I also loved how welcoming the host family always made me feel.
After America, I wanted to explore Europe. So I went over to the Netherlands, where I was aupairing two sweet boys. They were 6 years old and 8years old. That experience was a bit more challenging because English was not the first language of the boys, but we managed very well with the communication and all the cultural differences. They were also a bit older, so they were very independent.
Currently, I am aupairing a very sweet 5-year-old boy. It has also been very amazing the whole experience. I love to see how his English has improved and how much he is determined to teach me French. It is really an exchange between us.

I love being an au pair because I get to work with what I love most- kids. Plus is a great opportunity to immerse in a new culture and get to know new places. I can't put in words how much experience I've gained with this program and how much it has helped me in my life.
I hope I can explore a new place with another wonderful host family.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. I am looking forward to meeting you. Feel free to message me.

Warmly,
Leticia
