Letter to the family

Dear Host Family,

My name is Sophie, and I am interested in becoming an Au Pair in the upcoming summer. I am currently a student at the University of Glasgow, studying Biochemistry, however I am originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland.
I would love to become an Au Pair or Caregiver for elderly because I think it would be a great opportunity to experience a new culture, whilst sharing my own. I enjoy learning new languages and meeting new people, and of course love travelling and visiting new places. I think the role would benefit me, as I will be able to grow as a person, and I am also excited to help others and hopefully become a role model for children.

I think you should host me because I am a caring, loving person, with a desire to put others before myself. My family and friends would describe as as very determined and hardworking, always keen to take on new challenges. I am also very responsible and can be trusted.

I have worked with children in the past, such as in church summer camps, where I was responsible for a small group of children, teaching them and helping make crafts and playing games with them. I also volunteered at a boys scouts group for two years as a leader where I was responsible for organising games and leading activities, as well as chatting and getting to know the children. My previous experience revealed to me that I very much enjoy working with children, and can get along with them and have fun, at the same time still maintaining authority and care for them.

Experience

As of yet, I have not been an Au Pair before. However, upon research into what the role involves, through videos and online sources, I think I would really enjoy, and benefit from the opportunity.

About me

I am reliable, caring and responsible. Beyond my studies in Biochemistry, I am interested in health and wellbeing as well as art and music. My hobbies include cooking and baking, playing hockey, yoga, listening to music and playing piano and guitar (self taught). I also enjoy running or going on long walks. After being an Au Pair, I hope to complete my university studies and go on to work in scientific research, such as cancer studies.
