Letter to the family

My name is Leah and I am a 23 year old student from Scotland . I have a strong passion for education, cultural exchange, and working with children. While I currently work In a bar (parents I can and will make good cocktails)
, I have previously worked as a children’s entertainer and have plenty experience with children, as my mum is a single portent I have helped raise my brother, now 15. I bring both professional experience and a caring personality to every home and learning environment I join. I'm fluent in English, however I m currently trying to learn both Spanish and German!, I love exploring new cultures, cuisines, and perspectives.
I have previous experience of volunteering to tutor kids 8-13, mainly helping them with homework as well as maths and English- please note my maths skills are a bit rusty.
I am currently doing criminology and criminal justice at the university of the west of Scotland and plan to specialise in human right after this.
I want to become an Au Pair and Live-in Tutor because I see it as a unique opportunity to combine my love for teaching with meaningful cultural exchange. I enjoy being a positive role model and helping children grow in a supportive, educational, and fun environment. Living with a host family also allows for a more authentic cultural experience, and I look forward to learning from your family as much as I hope to contribute.

As a reliable, respectful, and adaptable person, I will bring not only my tutoring skills but also a warm presence to your household. I understand the balance of being part of a family while also maintaining professional boundaries. Your children will benefit from both academic support and an engaging, friendly companion who’s genuinely invested in their well-being and development. I’m also happy to help with light household tasks, contribute to family routines, and make your life a little easier. My flatmate and I have 2 cats and I have plenty of experience with dogs as well so I am also happy to help out with pet care!

I have 4 years of experience working with children of various age groups, however I also volunteered with VTO, a Scottish charity which helps underprivileged children with tutoring and have previously done work experience working with children aged 4-7.
I am patient, organized, and have a basic understanding of educational techniques tailored to each child's learning style. Whether it's helping with homework, language skills, or creative activities, I am dedicated to creating a fun and educational atmosphere. Additionally, my cultural sensitivity and international mindset make me a great fit for a global family environment.

While I would like to Au Pair for the summer, if the right family came along I would be happy to take a gap year at university meaning I can do may 2025-September 2026!

Experience

I have experience working with children both in educational and home settings. In previous roles, I’ve supported families by helping children with their homework, organizing creative and educational activities, and providing daily care with patience and empathy. I’ve worked with children across different age groups, and I’ve learned how to adjust my communication and teaching style to fit their individual needs. While I may not have held the formal title of "Au Pair" before, my responsibilities in these roles closely align with what’s expected from an Au Pair & Live-in Tutor: being a caring presence, offering educational support, and helping create a positive, structured environment.

What draws me to becoming an Au Pair & Live-in Tutor abroad is the opportunity to immerse myself in another culture while doing something meaningful. I truly enjoy working with children and helping them grow academically and personally. Being abroad adds another layer of learning- not just for me, but also for the children I work with. I believe cultural exchange is a two-way street: while I teach and support the children, I also learn from their culture, values, and daily life. This kind of experience builds deep connections and helps shape a broader, more empathetic worldview. It’s something I find both rewarding and inspiring.
