Letter to the family

Dear Host Family,

My name is Pia , I am 18 years old, and I come from a small town in Thuringia, Germany. I have recently completed my high school diploma (Abitur), and I am now looking forward to embarking on a new chapter in my life - one that combines my love for children, my curiosity for different cultures, and my desire to grow both personally and socially. Becoming an Au Pair is the perfect opportunity for me to achieve that.

Growing up with a single mother and two younger brothers, aged 10 and 15, I naturally took on a caring, maternal and responsible role within my family from a young age. This experience has shaped me into a mature, empathetic, and reliable person who understands the needs of children and knows how to create a nurturing environment. Alongside helping care for my siblings, I have also gained experience with animals - we currently have two turtles and used to have fish and a rabbit - so I’m comfortable with pets in the household and am willing to care for them as well.

One of my strengths is my adaptability. I changed schools once, which taught me how to quickly adjust to new situations and connect with different types of people. I would describe myself as flexible, open-minded, and easy-going, which allows me to integrate smoothly into new environments.

Over the past four years, I have worked as a private tutor and gained further experience in various people-oriented roles. I have completed internships in a kindergarten and a secondary school, worked in gastronomy, and also in retail. All of these roles have reinforced my passion for working with people, especially children. I have strong emotional intelligence, and I’m able to read and respond to the feelings of others intuitively - something that’s crucial when looking after children and supporting a family.

I would love to become an Au Pair in a new foreign environment, not only because of its cultural diversity and openness but also because I want to explore life outside of Germany. I am ready to expand my horizons, build meaningful relationships, and learn about daily life in a different country. For me, being an Au Pair is not just about travel - it’s about becoming part of a new family and contributing positively to their lives.

I believe I would be a great fit for your family because I am highly reliable, trustworthy, and genuinely care about the wellbeing of others. My background, combined with my practical experience and natural empathy, makes me confident that I can be a supportive and positive presence in your home.

Thank you very much for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity of getting to know you and hopefully becoming a part of your family.

Warm regards,
Pia

Why I Want to Be an Au Pair Abroad

After recently completing my Abitur (German high school diploma), I feel ready to explore the world beyond my hometown and step into a new phase of my life. Becoming an Au Pair abroad is the perfect opportunity for me to do just that - it allows me to grow personally, experience a new culture firsthand, and build meaningful connections with people from different backgrounds.

One of the main reasons I want to be an Au Pair abroad is to broaden my horizons. I have lived my whole life in Germany and I’m now eager to experience daily life in a different country, especially in a lively, international sorrounding. I want to learn about new traditions, ways of living, and perspectives while also improving my language skills and becoming more independent.

I know what it means to take responsibility and to care for others - qualities that are essential when living with and supporting a host family abroad.
