Letter to the family

Hello !

My name is Zara, I am a French Master student coming to study in UCD in September.

I am writing to express my sincere interest in becoming an Au Pair and Caregiver for the elderly in your home. I come from a diverse background shaped by travel, academic studies in literature and culture, and years of personal and professional growth. I see this opportunity not only as a job but as a meaningful exchange of humanity, care, and culture.

From a young age, I’ve been drawn to stories—both those we read and those we live. I’ve studied Irish literature and culture at the Master’s level, with a particular focus on how time and space shape societies and individuals. This academic path has deepened my understanding of empathy and human connection, especially across generations and cultures.

Becoming an Au Pair and Caregiver feels like a natural extension of who I am. I’ve always been someone who finds joy in helping others feel seen, heard, and cared for. Whether that’s supporting children as they grow or offering gentle companionship and practical help to elderly individuals, I’m at my best when I’m nurturing meaningful relationships. I also see caregiving as a way to share lightness and creativity—through conversation, music, art, or simply being present.

You should host me because I bring a genuine heart, open mind, and strong sense of responsibility. I’m deeply respectful of the people and spaces I enter. I know how to listen with care, adapt with flexibility, and communicate with warmth. With a background in musical theatre and vocal training, I’ve learned how to balance discipline with sensitivity—skills that are crucial in caregiving environments. I also speak several languages and am currently learning others, which helps me connect easily across cultural lines.

I’m qualified for this role not only through my formal education and experiences, but through my intention: I’m here to contribute something real. I believe that every interaction has the potential to leave someone feeling better, safer, or more understood. That’s the spirit I would bring to your home every day.

Thank you for considering me as a potential addition to your family. I would be honored to share this chapter of life with you—learning from you as much as I give in return.

Experience

While I have not yet worked as an official Au Pair or Elderly Caregiver, I have long been immersed in environments that center compassion, attention, and meaningful human connection. Throughout my studies and travels, I’ve had opportunities to support and spend time with both children and elderly individuals in personal settings—whether by helping with daily routines, engaging in conversation, or simply offering company with presence and warmth.

I am drawn to becoming an Au Pair and Caregiver abroad because I believe this experience offers one of the most immersive and human ways to understand another culture. As part of my academic journey—studying literature, culture, and society—I’ve come to realize how much true learning happens not just in classrooms, but in kitchens, living rooms, and quiet daily rituals shared with others. Living closely with a family or with someone older allows for a deeper cultural exchange, rooted in empathy, respect, and care.

This winter, I want to live something meaningful. I want to help, learn, and grow. Caring for someone—whether young or old—is, to me, a powerful way to offer love through presence. I also see this as a way to share moments of art, language, and kindness across generations, and to bring joy into everyday life.
