Letter to the family

Dear Future Host Family,

My name is Paige, and I’m a 24-year-old from the United Kingdom currently studying International Studies (Politics) with The Open University. I also work as a tutor and have experience in administrative roles, volunteering, and working with children with a range of needs. I’m passionate about cultural exchange, education, and building meaningful connections with people from different walks of life.

I want to become an Au Pair because I truly enjoy working with children and contributing to their development in a fun, safe, and caring environment. I see this opportunity not just as a job, but as a chance to be part of a new family, immerse myself in a different culture, and learn from everyday life in a new country. I’m excited by the idea of helping children grow while also improving my language skills and sharing parts of my own culture in return.

You should consider hosting me because I’m responsible, patient, and genuinely invested in the well-being of children. I understand the importance of being flexible and supportive, especially in a household where children’s needs are the priority. I always bring warmth and creativity into the spaces I work in—whether it’s helping with homework, planning a fun activity, or simply being a dependable and calm presence.

I believe I’m well-qualified for the position due to my extensive experience with children of different ages and abilities. I currently tutor students with special educational needs, and I’ve volunteered as a mental health mentor and with the Alzheimer’s Society. These roles have strengthened my communication, empathy, and adaptability—skills that are essential for being a successful Au Pair.

Thank you so much for considering me. I look forward to hopefully joining your family and creating lasting memories together.

Warm regards,
Paige

Experience

Although I have not formally worked as an Au Pair before, I have extensive experience working with children in various settings. I currently tutor students with a range of needs, including autism, anxiety, and learning difficulties. This has taught me how to be patient, creative, and flexible in my approach to supporting children’s development. I’ve also volunteered as a mental health mentor and participated in youth projects where I helped plan activities, offer emotional support, and encourage confidence and independence in young people.

What draws me to becoming an Au Pair abroad is the unique opportunity to combine my love for working with children with my passion for cultural exchange. I believe living with a host family in a new country is one of the most meaningful ways to learn about a different culture, language, and way of life. It’s a chance to grow personally, while also becoming a trusted and supportive part of someone else’s family. I’m excited to form genuine connections, learn from the experience, and offer care, kindness, and consistency to the children I look after.
