Letter to the family

My name is Sara, I’m 22 years old and from Spain, though I was born in Guatemala. Growing up in countries like Senegal and France taught me to appreciate different cultures and communicate beyond language barriers.

I’ve been working as an au pair in Chicago for the past two years, caring for two children who are now 2 and 5. The younger child has special needs and requires a G-tube, which has taught me how to care for children with medical conditions. This experience has been incredibly fulfilling and has helped me grow in patience, responsibility, and adaptability.

In addition to my au pair experience, I worked as a reading and writing instructor and completed a 3–4 month internship in a preschool with children aged 0–3 as part of my Early Childhood Education studies. I’ve also regularly visited classrooms with children aged 0–5, gaining strong practical knowledge of child development.

I’m passionate about working with children and excited to continue this journey. I’d love the opportunity to be part of your family and contribute to your children’s growth and happiness.

Experience

I’ve always been surrounded by children thanks to my big family and my travels. I’ve cared for many kids, especially babies, including my goddaughter and her sister, and often helped my parents’ friends with their children.

In the summers of 2020 and 2023, I volunteered as a camp monitor for two weeks, working with kids aged 5 to 17. Then I moved to Chicago, where I’ve been an au pair for two children,now aged 2 and 5, since the youngest was just 4 months old. He has special needs, which has taught me a lot about patience and the importance of attentive care.

I’ve also done babysitting for other families, mostly with younger kids, but I also enjoy spending time with teenagers and hearing their perspectives.
