Letter to the family

My name is rachel, and I’m thrilled at the opportunity to introduce myself to you. I come from a loving and supportive family and have always enjoyed being around children, whether helping care for younger relatives or volunteering in my community. With a genuine love for children and a strong desire to learn about new cultures, becoming an Au Pair feels like a perfect path for me.

I want to become an Au Pair because it combines two of my greatest passions: working with children and cultural exchange. I believe that stepping into a new environment, living with a family, and becoming part of their everyday life is one of the most authentic ways to understand and appreciate a different culture. At the same time, I look forward to contributing to your family—helping care for your children, assisting with household tasks, and creating joyful, nurturing experiences together.

You should consider hosting me because I bring a positive attitude, responsibility, and warmth into every situation. I genuinely value communication, patience, and respect, which I know are key in building a strong and trusting relationship with you and your children. I want to be more than just someone who watches the kids; I want to be a supportive, fun, and caring role model in their lives.

I believe I’m well-qualified for this position because of my background in childcare and genuine commitment to learning and growing. I have experience babysitting children of different ages, helping with homework, preparing meals, and organizing fun and educational activities. I have worked as a teacher's assistant at a school for behavioral issues for the past two summers as well. I also just received my bachelor's in psychology and human service studies from Elon University and am preparing for my master's in clinical mental health counseling.

I am dependable, flexible, and eager to adapt to your family’s routines and expectations. I also understand the importance of safety and responsibility when caring for children.

Experience

Although I have not officially worked as an au pair before, I have meaningful experience caring for children through babysitting, volunteering, and helping family and friends. I’ve looked after children of various ages, from toddlers to early teens, and have assisted with everything from playtime and homework to preparing meals and maintaining routines. These experiences have taught me the importance of patience, creativity, and communication when working with kids, and they've confirmed how much I enjoy supporting their growth and well-being.

I would love to become an Au Pair abroad because it offers the unique opportunity to combine two things I’m passionate about—childcare and cultural exchange. Living with a host family in a different country would allow me to immerse myself in a new culture and way of life. I see it as a chance to help a family, care for their children, and grow as a person, becoming more independent, adaptable, and globally minded. I believe the Au Pair experience is more than just a job—it’s a cultural journey, and I’m very excited about the opportunity to be part of it.
