Letter to the family

Dear family,

Hello, my name is Lauren . I’m 18 years old and currently on a gap year. I start my University degree in September 2021, to study Marine Biology.
My family is English, but we moved to France when I was only two years old, which is why I am fluent in English and French. I also speak Spanish quite well and would love to learn more languages.
I currently live in the South of France with my parents, my younger sister who is 17, my little brother who is 11 years old, and numerous pets.

I really love getting to know new people and spending time with children. I have experience in babysitting and tutoring, and have very much enjoyed these experiences. Furthermore, just the experience of living with a slightly wild little brother really teaches you a lot about caring for children.
I have also always loved discovering new cultures, traveling, and learning new languages. I have travelled quite a lot with my family in the past, especially around eastern Africa. Now that I am 18, soon to be 19 years old, I would love to start traveling more autonomously.

Au pairing seems like the perfect opportunity to really be integrated into a new lifestyle. Whether I be introduced to a whole different culture, a new language, or simply to an enthusiastic and cheerful family; au pairing will certainly be an adventure and an experience that I am very much looking forward to.

Experience

I have experience in both babysitting and tutoring, and am hoping that this could earn me the pleasure of integrating a foreign family as an au pair or/and tutor for the first time.

I have had a lot of babysitting experience during the past year, and have always cared enormously for my little brother. I am very careful and patient with children, and love engaging in fun activities with them, whether it be going for bike rides or playing board games.
I have also had experience in tutoring. For two months at the start of 2020, I did babysitting in the evenings for a local french family five days a week. During this time I mainly spoke English with their three children who were home schooled. These kids were of ages 5, 8, and 10 years old. The simple daily exchange really helped all three kids, whether it be just getting used to listening to a new language and picking up words for the youngest child, or perfecting their communication skills for the two elder children.
Therefore, I would be very happy to introduce a language to your children, or simply reinforce their conversational skills, whether it be in French or English.

It would also be really great if I am able to start learning a new language during my time with you.
