Letter to the family

Hi I am Scarlett, Nice to meet you!

I'm 19 years old. I live in a small town in Warwickshire in the Midlands, UK. I have a younger sister who I have grown up looking after. I have some experience in childcare, babysitting and holiday camps. My hobbies include choral singing, playing the piano, reading and walking!

I have not been an au pair before but I have a love for working with children. I have experience babysitting for local families during school holidays from the ages of 13 to 19. I have also worked in an activity centre where I lead children kayaking workshops from the ages of 13 to 15. This Easter, I will be working at a Primary School holiday camp leading camp activities.

I am currently a 2nd year student at Durham University in the north of England. I am studying History and Spanish. I have been studying Spanish since I was 13 and am currently studying it as part of my university degree. In October 2025 I will start a 10-month placement as school teaching assistant in Andalusia with British Council. In this job I will be teaching English to primary/secondary school children. I am happy to help teach the children some English as their au pair.

Before this placement starts in October, I am looking for a family to au pair for a month or two in August-September 2025. This will be an amazing opportunity to gain more experience working with children and sustain my Spanish before my teaching placement.

Experience

I have never been an au pair before but I think I will be a great fit!

I love working with children. I have experience babysitting for three local families during school holidays from the ages of 13 to 19. I have also worked in an activity centre where I lead children kayaking workshops from the ages of 13 to 15. In this positions I have developed strong resilience and empathy. This year I lead my college choir which has helped me to develop great personal leadership skills.

Before I start this year teaching, I would like to experience living in Spain and working with children. I love babysitting and this will be an incredible opportunity to experience and integrate into the real day-to-day life of a Spanish family. My Spanish is currently intermediate level but this will help me to be more confident! I am happy to teach the children some English if this is desired as it will be great experience for me.
