Letter to the family

I am Nisha, an English Literature student from the UK. I would love to become an Au Pair because I think I have valuable skills to offer such as my extensive knowledge of the English Language, my organisational skills and my conscientious character.

Through my experience as a spelling mentor for younger pupils in school, I learned how to engage students by creating new and fun ways to learn. In preparation for my charity trip to South Africa, I prepared a lesson to teach to pupils and was required to accommodate pupils who may have only a basic knowledge of the English language.

I am fluent in English and achieved an A grade at both my GCSE and my A-Level for English. Having gone on to study English Literature at University I have increased my knowledge further of the English Language and would be able to offer valuable lessons on grammar, punctuation and spelling.

I would like to become an Au Pair and Nanny to gain more experience working with children and to learn about another culture. I am dedicated and hard-working and will be committed to giving the best experience possible, whilst making the most of my own experience.

Experience

Despite the fact I have never been hired as an Au Pair before, I believe I have some experience that would be relevant to the role.

I have had various experiences with mentoring in school and at University. When completing my A-Levels, I mentored a year 7 pupil to help with spelling. In this role, I created new and fun ways of learning spelling and was pleased to hear the pupil's grades significantly improved after the mentoring course finished.

At University I am a mentor in the University newspaper's scheme for students of colour which I co-launched as Equality and Diversity Officer. In this role, I meet regularly with my two mentees to offer help with their involvement in the University newspaper and tips for getting into journalism.

Aside from my experience as a mentor, I was also selected to represent my university in a charity trip to South Africa to work in schools and deliver leadership training and sports skills to a range of secondary schools including a school for special needs pupils. In preparation for my trip, I completed a year of fundraising including hosting my own event and hosting charity bake sales at my local leisure centre. I also completed a leadership training course.

Unfortunately, my trip to South Africa had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. I would like to become an Au Pair to have the opportunity to work with children as I had planned. I would also like to expand my knowledge of different cultures and different languages through working as an Au Pair.
