Letter to the family

Hello, my name is Ashley and I am a former University student from the United States. I am currently on a break from my studies.
I was born and raised in the state of Florida to Venezuelan parents. I grew up bilingual, having to learn both English and Spanish.

I have completed my first two years of community college and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in General Studies.
I started my first semester at a local university in Florida two years ago, with the hopes of gaining a bachelor’s degree in English Literature. I hope to go back to my studies in the future and become an English teacher for children.

I decided to take a break from my studies two years ago to travel and gain life experiences before I go back. The first year I was off, I decided to work full time to be able to travel afterwards, which I am currently doing.
Last year in April I moved abroad to the United Kingdom, for a year, to do volunteer work at a homeless charity in London. I will be finishing my volunteer work soon in April.

Moving to London was the first time I traveled and moved to another country alone. I did not let the fear of the unknown stop me, I wanted to take on the challenge and experience a different culture that I have not lived in before. I feel that this position so far has helped me lived and worked in an environment where I have learned and appreciated life more. I have learned to talk and live with individuals from all different backgrounds and personalities, which in turn has helped me become more open minded. Also, having to help the homeless in the city has taught me to appreciate and be thankful for the small pleasure we usually would take for granted.
Having lived in the UK for the past eleven months has helped me experience living in a foreign country on my own and meeting other volunteers from around the world.

Experience

I am interested in becoming an Au Pair because of the valuable and educational experience I could gain from it. I am a fast learner and can adapt to different situations quickly. I enjoy being able to learn and experience a different culture and Lifestyle that I have not lived in before.
I enjoy working with children and being able to help parents care for them. Also, having to interact with children full time as an Au Pair would help me gain valuable skills I can use in the future for my career field. I began studying English Literature in the United States about two years ago, with hopes of becoming an English Teacher for children.

My experience in childcare would be caring for children of family, such as babysitting for an evening. Also, working with children in a retail and theme park environment. I have previously worked for Walt Disney World for 2 years, and spent most of my time having to interact and play with child.
