Letter to the family

Hello, future host families!

My name is Leanna, I'm 18 years old and live in a suburb of Los Angeles, California. I live with my mother (Ori) and grandparents (Vicky and David). I also have a younger brother (Liam) on my father's side, however I have recently moved a bit further from him to be closer to school and work.

I want to be an au pair because I love caring for children. Being an au pair would be the perfect way to fulfill this passion of mine while still attending college. I would love to work with a family with a lifestyle different than my own and gain knowledge on different cultures. I, as well as others around me, would describe myself as caring and thoughtful. Everything I do is done with much attention and effort, whether it be school, work, a performance etcetera. I believe myself to be qualified for the position of an au pair because I have babysat young children for years. I would be incredibly grateful to dedicate my time to caring for your children and gain a meaningful connection with your family.

Experience

Though I have never been an official au pair, I believe that I have much experience caring for young children. I grew up helping with and eventually caring for many younger cousins, aged 4-14. I also have a younger brother who is now 7. I have been babysitting him a few hours a week since he was around 2, and still do for up to a few days at a time. This includes full days of care: getting ready for and walking to school, pick up, entertainment, meals, learning basic skills and a bed time routine. I also babysit other young children in the neighborhood, sometimes up to three children at a time (ages 5-8). Through this I gained lasting bonds with parents and their children of my community.

I understand that being an au pair requires much more time and dedication, however I feel the experience would be incredibly fulfilling. I greatly enjoy helping children, teaching them and watching them grow and experience life. I want to be an au pair for families abroad to gain more knowledge on cultures different than my own. I feel that there is no better way to immerse into a new culture than in a family unit. I also hope to better my French speaking skills; children are usually less judgmental of poor grammar.
