Letter to the family

I’m 19 years old and have recently finished my A-levels, and attended university for a short while on a law course. I realised that I had more of an interest in business and would like to go back to university in the future to study further.
Growing up, having a younger sister I always loved caring for her and my cousins over the years. After moving to the UK at 13 it was difficult to adjust to life without my extended family but I have since made good friends and met my boyfriend. He comes from a big blended family with siblings from 1-21 years old. Over the two years that we have been together I have loved spending time with his family and babysitting as they get older.
In the future I would like to combine my interest in business and my love for children by teaching the subject. Having grown up in South Africa and moved to the UK I have also seen the differences in cultures and perspectives.
I have social experience in child care but have not yet had a professional position. I have worked as a supervisor in a restaurant and retail store from the age of 17. From this I have developed time management skills, the importance of routine, clear communication and patience. None of this means I am a professional au pair but I do believe I have the qualities to learn quickly and be a good role model.

Experience

I have basic experience babysitting family and friends’ children from babies and toddlers to children aged 10. I don’t have a particular need to be an au pair abroad, but I am open to the opportunity. I have an interest in international business and the opportunity to experience different cultures while working abroad would be amazing. Having grown up in South Africa, I already have some experience of different cultures and think this would be useful in an au pair position abroad.
