Letter to the family

Dear Family,

My name is Cleo, 25 years old, I'm currently an au pair in Belgium until March 2020 so I am looking for a host family for the year 2020-2021.

I am from the Philippines (Makati, central business city of the Philippines). I’m a Multimedia Arts undergrad and I’m on a bit of a break, from working in the corporate world. My previous position at work is Sports Data Trading and a freelance English tutor for Koreans. I’ve also had previous childcare experience back when I was in college.

My family is a typical Filipino family. There are my parents, my younger twin sisters (they are 21 years old) and me. My mother is a retired nurse. She is a nice and friendly woman who likes to read and research about holistic lifestyle and health topics. My father works as a visual artist in Los Angeles California, USA. I don’t get to see him often but we talk almost every day. My siblings are still in college and are very busy but we try to meet up at least twice in a month. I have a good relationship with my family, but I moved out from home when I turned 20 years old, as I wanted to be independent and experience living in the city by myself. Our family home is located in a city, but our city is less urbanized compared to the big ones, where I am now residing for four years.

I’m an active, creative and adventurous young woman. In my spare time I like being able to move around, I play football quite a lot and I've had experience coaching youngsters. I'm sure I can teach and share my passion with your kids. Teaching sports to little kids is a fulfillment for me, I enjoy it a lot and I’ve done it for free on different volunteer events. It is indeed sometimes difficult to motivate the children, but I love being able to contribute to their fresh minds, and their growth.
I love travelling. I try to travel as much as my time and budget will allow. I believe that it’s one of the best things you can do for yourself. Seeing and experiencing the world is the best way to learn and educate yourself about the things that really matters. The Earth is filled with infinite experiences, wonders and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, so I try to broaden my cultural, intellectual, and spiritual self.
I am into the creative field, having a father who's a visual artist, I'd say I'm naturally inclined with art, as well as music. I have been trained in a music performance school for over six years since I was eight years old. Sadly since I’ve been living in an apartment in the city, I can barely practice anymore. I also love reading and I try to write if I have the time. I would love to be able to sing lullabies and read stories to kids before bed time. I will also do my best to get your children learn about art, music, and books.
I'm a fluent English speaker (I've tutored Koreans who almost perfected their English Proficiency Exams!), so I can confidently say that I can tutor your kids English well enough. I would also love to learn other languages to enrich myself, learn about different cultures and lifestyle whilst meeting new people and making new friends.

Currently I am taking care of two children, 3 and 4 years old. They are very energetic and lively kids
I am mainly in charge of getting them ready for school, preparing their fruit and lunch boxes, checking if they have homework, bathing them, and speaking english to them

Before I became an au pair, I’ve had 18 months of paid live-out babysitting experience, I was in charge of two young children- ages 7 and 9 years old thrice a week. My housekeeping and nanny duties in the Dagohoy household included- taking the children to school and taking them to after school activities such as taekwondo and swimming lessons, purchasing groceries, preparing and cooking meals for the children, maintaining good hygiene practices in the household and bedtime routines. I have no problem with chores.
Though I am only 20 years old then, I am quite mature for my age, I am able to handle the energy and inquisitiveness of such young children. I have also looked after my relatives' kids in the past years. I've looked after kids, 3-10 year olds and I have helped my mother in upbringing my two younger sisters, since I’m the eldest child.

I am reliable and trustworthy. I have a genuine interest in the well-being of children. I do not easily tire or stress out as I am very patient with kids. I am prepared and I am well aware of the fact that being a big sister for your children comes along with responsibilities and it will not always be just play and fun. My calm and patient personality will help me to master more difficult situations for instance, when the kids are tired or don’t want to listen to me. I’m confident that I can handle these situations well. I have a brief childcare experience but it was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I would like to do it again. I can be very nurturing and I understand that as children grow they need constant attention, reassurance and guidance, fostering their development.
I am recognized for maintaining a safe and healthy environment as a big sister in our family and even to my previous employer. I do expect that the first couple of days could be exhausting, because it has been awhile since I worked as a nanny, but I am sure that I will adapt to it again, to the new tasks and daily routine, and I will hopefully quickly become a big help.

The possibility of living abroad as an Au pair is quite exciting for me. I have considerable experience in living away from home, and though I’ve only had a very few travels out of the country, being by myself a lot taught to be independent (My mother taught me to be independent at a very young age), I don’t think I will get home sick much. I mean, it’s been my dream to get to live abroad since I was a teen so, I will make the best out of this experience.

I respect the household rules, and I am considerate of a family's privacy. I’m easily approached and soft spoken. I am generally cheerful and easy to live with. I am not a demanding person and I could be a bit shy sometimes, but if something works not quite as it should, I would prefer to talk and discuss issues and such.

I am really curious to hear all about you and your children and I really can’t wait to be an au pair. If my skills and experience please you, I am available to discuss your expectations in an interview at your convenience.

Thank you for reading my letter. I hope you consider me.

Sincerely,
Cleo
