Letter to the family

Dear Host Family,
My name is Rachel and I am a Canadian university student graduating in April 2025, with a Psychology degree from McGill University. Before I pursue my Masters in Child Development, I am taking a year out from school to travel and gain further hands on experience with children. Au Pairing is the perfect route to doing both! During my summers throughout high school, I nannied for a family with three boys and loved the ability to connect and play a role in their lives which came from spending so much consistent time together. This past summer I worked at a preschool, serving in the position of assistant teacher and art therapist. It solidified my wish for a career in children's therapy and strengthened my skills in instructing and caring for children. I am responsible, competent, and passionate! I have lived with host families previously while doing a semester abroad in Australia and while working this previous summer at the preschool. Coming from a big family, I am comfortable blending in to new home environments and used to being part of a family team. I believe that children are incredibly important and so dynamic in their ability to learn while exploring and having fun. In my interactions with all the children I have nannied or taught, I have been committed to building self-esteem and a sense of unique personal power. I would take that same intention with the children I am entrusted with while Au Pairing.

Experience

I would like to become an Au Pair abroad because it offers the opportunity to live in and get to know a new country while gaining additional experience with children. I lived in Sydney, Australia for six months while completing a semester abroad and loved getting to know Sydney as someone living there as opposed to just visiting. I would like to have a similar experience in a new place. Children are the demographic with which I'd like to work as I pursue a career in counselling. I believe it is essential to have worked closely with children before becoming a children's therapist, which is why I am seeking an Au Pair placement. I have nannied consistently with a family before over the span of three summers, spending from 9am to 3pm with their three boys aged 5, 3, and 8 months. My main responsibility was to organize and conduct age-appropriate recreational activities, such as games, arts and crafts, sports, walks, and play dates, all with the primary goal of being fun! I combined what I learned from this position with the knowledge I've gained at university in my undergraduate degree studying Psychology at the job experience I had this summer as a Preschool teacher's assistant/art therapist. I have a great deal of hands on child caring experience and a true love for children which together make me an excellent candidate to Au Pair.
