Letter to the family

Dear Future Host Family,

Hello! My name is Annika, I’m 22 years old, and I recently graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and minors in Creative Writing and Business. I’m originally from Oakland, California, and have just returned home after spending the past nine months abroad—five months studying in Sydney, Australia, and four months backpacking through Southeast Asia.

I’ve always been passionate about the outdoors and adventure. I grew up hiking, camping, swimming, skiing—you name it! With two older brothers, I was constantly playing sports and competing, whether on a team or just in the backyard. I’m a kind-hearted, active person who values connection, whether it's with friends, family, or the people I meet along the way.

Over the past few summers, I’ve worked on a cattle ranch, spending my days horseback riding and helping with various land chores. One summer, I worked at a paddle board shop in Colorado, where I was lucky enough to spend my days out on the water. These experiences taught me the value of hard work, responsibility, and adaptability.

I truly love working with children. I’ve been babysitting since I was 16—caring for kids ranging from newborns to teenagers—and I also worked at the Oakland Zoo's children's summer camp. Becoming an au pair has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m thrilled that the time has finally come to pursue it. I'm eager to live in a new city, build a strong connection with a host family, and play an active role in the lives of their children.

I would describe myself as outgoing, easygoing, and a proactive problem-solver. I’m capable, flexible, and reliable, which I believe makes me a strong addition to any family. While I look forward to being present and supportive when needed, I also value independence and look forward to exploring new interests and passions wherever I end up.

Ultimately, I believe I’m a great fit for this role because I’m a positive, can-do person who genuinely enjoys engaging with others—children and adults alike. My diverse background in school, work, and travel has prepared me to handle a variety of situations with patience, creativity, and resilience. I’m excited to learn more about how I can best support your family and become a meaningful part of your lives.

Warmly,
Annika

Experience

While I haven’t officially worked as an Au Pair or Nanny yet, I have extensive experience babysitting children of all ages—from newborns to teenagers. Growing up, I always dreamed of becoming an elementary school teacher, so I was constantly seeking out opportunities to care for kids in my community. Over the years, I’ve gained hands-on experience with everything from preparing meals and helping with homework to organizing outdoor activities, handling nap and bedtime routines, and even bath time.

What draws me to becoming an Au Pair abroad is the unique opportunity to combine two things I’m deeply passionate about: working with children and immersing myself in new cultures. I’m excited about the chance to form meaningful bonds with a host family, support the growth and development of their children, and experience daily life in a completely new environment. I believe my warmth, adaptability, and love for children make me a strong fit for this role, and I’m genuinely excited to contribute to your family while continuing to grow personally and culturally.
