Letter to the family

Originally translated from Deutsch
Dear host family!

My name is Lea and I come from Austria, the country of the mountains. I am 19 years old since July 2020. In this letter I would like to introduce myself a little more.

If you want to have a more precise definition of where I live, you can say I live in Tyrol, in a small town called Oberndorf. Since I was born, I live there with my parents and siblings in a beautiful house with a garden, swimming pond, cat and two chickens. My mom Nicole is 42 years old and works in the local crèche. My dad Hannes is 45 years old and is a teacher and director of the elementary school in Oberndorf. I also have two younger brothers: Kilian is 17 years old and Julian will be 13 in August. In October our family of five will grow - then there will be six of us.

If I had to describe my character myself, I would say that I am a rather calm but balanced person. Good qualities of mine are my punctuality, creativity and serenity. I also like to be helpful and spontaneous.

After four years of elementary school and four years of secondary school, I decided to go to a vocational college, HBLW in Saalfelden. There I decided to specialize in media informatics and after 5 years I successfully finished school with a Matura. In addition to the Matura, I completed a 3-month internship in the hospitality industry as well as the cooking and serving exam. There were also numerous other offers in the school. Of these, I took part in ukulele lessons, a first aid course and the so-called "Babyfit" course. Now I have finished school since June and do an internship in the crèche, kindergarten and after-school care center over the summer to gain more experience in childcare.

I love doing things with my friends in my free time. In summer we like to meet at lakes, go hiking, play volleyball or play board games like Activity or UNO. In winter we often go skiing, sledding and ice skating together. Alone I like to spend my free time listening to music, cooking / baking, painting, "making it myself" - and yes - I also enjoy watching films and series on Netflix. Since I am also very interested in art, I also like to visit museums. I also love to travel - even alone - to get to know other cultures. My two biggest travel adventures so far have been a trip to Russia with my dad and a trip to France alone to a friend who did an internship there.

After the au pair stay I plan to start studying. There is an art university in Linz that I am very interested in - especially for the bachelor's degree (B. Ed.) "Visual education".

About a year ago, I decided to apply as an au pair after school. It was important to me to get into the world a little before I started studying and continuing to study. Yes, there are many other options for a “study break”, but an au pair stay immediately seemed the right decision for me, as this job covers many of my interests. I like working with children, love learning new languages and want to get to know other countries and people. Likewise, an au pair stay gives me the opportunity and opportunity to become more responsible and self-employed, which in my view is also an important aspect for my own future.

I chose the Netherlands because I myself have Dutch roots. My grandmother is from Holland and so I've been familiar with the language and culture all my life. I still have relatives there who visit us in Austria several times a year. Unfortunately we don't go to Holland that often, which I think is a shame. Since I also want to learn the language better and want more "back to the roots", the decision for the right host country was not difficult for me. I love the windy, northern weather and the always warm and helpful people and I really want to be part of this country - at least for a few months.

After this summer full of new experiences in childcare and with my way I would be the ideal au pair in my opinion.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I sincerely hope that you now know me better and that I have sparked your interest in contacting me.

See you soon!

Yours Lea
