Letter to the family

Hi there! My name is Ainhoa. I am a 23 year old girl who just finished her major in Journalism plus also a major in History. I also studied music for over 10 years. I have lived most of my life in Pamplona, a small city in the north of Spain (some people might know it because it is the one where we celebrate the running of the bulls). However, since I was little I have loved traveling and getting to know different cultures. That is the reason why, when I was just 11 years old I went and lived for the summer with an Irish family. I did the same thing when I was 12, 13 and 14 and by the time I was 15 I wanted to leave for longer than 3 months. So I did. I lived in Houston with a host family while I was a junior in high school. Last year, I did my senior year of college near Chicago, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Since I came back home I have been dreaming of going away and getting to know more people and more cultures. I would love to go to any country where English is their first language like the United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Scotland... I would be happy in any of them! I could go and work there, do a masters, visit friends... Why going as an Au Pair/Nanny? Easy. I love children and feeling part of a family; everyone likes getting home to someone they care for. This is the main reason why I want to go, but, why would someone want to have me there?

I would like to think I am someone motivated, with goals, energetic, happy... I like doing things, learning, creating a bond with others, sharing the good and bad moments, and, specially, helping others. My American host mother, with whom I still have a very close relationship, used to love sitting down with me watching TV because she said that I always have something to talk about or a smile... and that I am always down to try anything new. Of course I am not perfect, but I do really want this, and I believe that is already a big step. But again, why me? I have a degree in History and another one in Journalism, but, I also thought of teaching, and this is a way of being a teacher without actually being one. I have younger cousins that I always take care of. When my aunt and uncle thank me for helping them out, I always thank them back, because I enjoy the time with them as much as they enjoy spending it with me.

In conclusion, I want to be a part of a family and help them with whatever they need. I know opening your house to someone you do not know can be a scary thing to do and you never know how it will turn out, believe me, I felt that way when I lived with host families, and that is why I know how important this is.

Experience

There are so many reasons why I would like to become an Au Pair/Nanny. It could be my love for children, my love for the country, my love for traveling... but, most importantly, it is how much I love helping others, spending time with new people and being part of a family that is not blood. Since I was young I have been very close to my parents and siblings, but I also have so many friends or host families that became family to me. I wish for this to be a new opportunity to do so.

Besides that, I love teaching and learning, and I think there is not a better way to do so than by being an Au Pair. I would love to teach children and even adults new things, parts of my culture, whatever they want, and also learn so many things from them.

Every time I take care of my cousins or their friends, or when I have helped kids that do not do so well in school, I feel like a kid as well. I am always down for anything and I really enjoy spending time with new people.

I do not want to repeat everything I said in my previous letter so, the last reason I believe I should become an Au Pair is because I know we can help each other.
