Letter to the family

My name is Natalie, and I’m currently a full-time student at the University of Michigan, pursuing a double major in International Studies and Spanish, along with a minor at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business. With a GPA of 3.9 and recognition at the Annual Honors Convocation, I approach everything I do with dedication, curiosity, and a genuine passion for learning—qualities I’m eager to bring into your home as an Au Pair.

I want to become an Au Pair because it perfectly combines three things I care deeply about: working with children, experiencing different cultures firsthand, and building lasting, meaningful relationships. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of becoming a part of a family, not just as a helper but as someone who contributes positively to your children’s development, daily life, and joy.

My background makes me a strong candidate for this role. I have experience caring for children between the ages of 5 and 8, and my time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and interning with Inland Campo Adentro has taught me patience, responsibility, and how to balance structure with creativity. I also bring an international perspective: I’ve studied abroad in Spain and in France, attending a summer program at Sciences Po in Paris. These experiences have deepened my cultural understanding and strengthened my communication skills in Spanish and French.

As an Au Pair, I’m confident in my ability to create a warm, safe, and enriching environment for your children. I’m active, reliable, and genuinely enjoy spending time with kids—whether it’s helping with homework, sharing stories, or playing outside. I’d be honored to support your family’s routines while also introducing elements of my own culture and language.

Thank you for considering me. I’m excited about the possibility of joining your family, sharing stories, meals, and laughter, and creating special memories together. I look forward to the chance to get to know you and your children soon!

Warmly,
Natalie

Experience

Although I haven’t formally worked as an Au Pair yet, I do have meaningful experience caring for children and supporting families. During my time in San Diego, I regularly babysat for a local family with children aged 5 to 8. This experience taught me how to build trust with both children and parents, create fun and educational activities, and manage daily routines like meals, homework, and bedtime in a warm, structured way.

In addition to babysitting, I’ve also worked with children through community and volunteer roles. For example, during my internship with Inland Campo Adentro in Spain, I’ll be helping care for children (and sheep!) at Casa de Campo, combining hands-on responsibility with cultural learning. Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity also gave me experience working with people of all ages, helping create safe, welcoming spaces—something I hope to do in your home, too.

I’d love to become an Au Pair abroad because it offers a truly unique way to grow. I see it as more than just a job—it’s a cultural exchange, a chance to become a part of someone’s family, and to connect with a new country not just as a visitor, but as a contributor. As a student of International Studies and Spanish, I’m genuinely passionate about languages, cross-cultural understanding, and global perspectives. Living with a family abroad would allow me to practice language immersion, build deep relationships, and gain a more personal understanding of everyday life in another culture—all while doing something I love: working with kids.
