Letter to the family

My name is Esmae, I am 18 years old and just finishing my education for my A-Levels, seeking the opportunity to form connections, travel some where new, and experience different cultures before following my career aspirations.

I would like to become an Au-Pair or Live-In Tutor to gain valuable experience as an individual, further developing my skills of communication, patience and general empathy and kindness for others. Additionally, the opportunity to work with children would be a great way for me to share in creativity and fun whilst also exercising care and compassion.

Experience

Whilst I have yet to be an Au-Pair or Live-In Tutor, I would be interested in undertaking this opportunity to progress as an individual, gaining a keener insight into the lives of others and how different cultures and families are experienced. The following are some of the examples of the reasonings I felt I would be suited to this experience.

For approximately a year I worked part time alongside my studies at a Garden Centre as a cashier. My job role focused heavily in providing good customer service, which I really enjoyed- taking the opportunity to identify regulars and create positive interactions and bonds with customers. Whilst I enjoyed forming these connections with regulars and making conversations, the necessity to process sales quickly to keep up with queues meant that any connection formed was fleeting and impersonal. This is part of the reason why I feel suited to the role of Au Pair or Live-In Tutor as I am willing and ready to make and sustain bonds to be an asset to your family.

Furthermore, as someone from a big family and many younger cousins I often enjoyed spending time with them the most at family gatherings and felt that this enjoyment of listening to and playing with them would translate well to skills as an Au Pair.

Not only was I influenced by time spent with my young cousins, but during my time studying for my A-Levels I spent some time volunteering at a local secondary school to work with a younger student. In particular, I spent an hour a week helping a student practice his reading skills and going through a work booklet which helped me gain some further patience and communication skills- especially when having to explain certain word or phrases to him.

Prior to that, I volunteered for 6 months at my old primary school; attending weekly to aid students in following the instructions for their code club using programs such as Scratch. On one occasion, I encountered a student having a flaw in his coding that he was struggling to identify, and as I checked over it I couldn't notice the issue either. With this in mind, when going home I opened the program myself and recreated his program, identifying the issue to help him resolve it the following week.

In summary, I have a keen interest in forming a bond with a family whilst also being able to be a helpful asset with children that a family might need or want the help for.
