Letter to the family

I am a 23 year old travel enthusiast and am looking to make the most out of my summer with limited travel opportunities.

I want to study Translation Science to become an Interpreter and Spanish is one of the languages I wanted to learn for a few years. Whilst staying with my host family I'd like to attend an eight - twelve week Spanish course which most schools offer in the evenings which would allow me to stay with the child/children throughout the day and study in the evening.

I am currently doing a one-week Spanish crash course to learn the basics.

I am only close with my grandparents and my mum but couldn't love them more. I'd move heaven and earth for them.

I am an only child but have grown up with my uncle and 5 cousins in one house as well as two cats and loads of rabbits and guinea pigs. I'm an animal lover and only dislike birds.

I am a water addict and like anything to do with the sea or the beach. I did do some wind surfing and recently got my scuba diving license.

I also very much like crafting and try myself at knitting, painting and DIY‘s.

I am not really talented in anything in particular but like trying new things and am willing to give everything my best shot.

German - mother tongue
English - very fluent after living 4 years abroad in Australia/UK
French - minimal, not able to have a conversation
Spanish - minimal, not able to have a conversation - currently doing a one week crash course to learn the basics

Spending my time with children is a win-win situation. I learn as much from them as they learn from me. Patience, authority and Understanding.

I love the Spanish culture and have friends in Sevilla as well as Chile and Argentina. I would love to speak Spanish with them and for Spanish to be part of my career and maybe life one day

The only thing really important to me is communication. I think my last au pair experience could have been a lot smoother if the communication between me and the host parents had been better. There are little things that bother me but I like to know upfront what you expect from me as your au pair.

I would love to find a family that incorporates me in their activities and doesn’t just treat me like an employee but I totally understand that you need time to yourself as much as I need some privacy from time to time.

I will also need some time to go to a language school at some point during the day. Hopefully I'll make some friends to spend some free time on the weekends with.

Experience

I've been an au pair once before in Australia but unfortunately, my host family and I weren't a good match and had to part ways after 4 weeks. I do have younger cousins that I've babysitted before.

I was broad up religiously and did my 'youth leader license' when I was 14. The course took a year to complete and I was taught how to interact with children up to the age of twelve. I have also completed a first aid course.
