Letter to the family

1. Who am I?
Hi! I’m Johnny (Chun-Lin ), a 23-year-old from Taiwan, currently living in Chatswood, Sydney. I speak fluent English and Mandarin, and I also know a bit of Japanese and German. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and have over five years of experience working with children, especially as a private tutor for elementary and middle school students. I’ve also helped lead several summer and winter camps, which gave me even more hands-on experience working with kids in group settings.

2. Why do I want to become an au pair?
I want to become an au pair because I genuinely enjoy working with children and supporting their learning and growth. I find it really fulfilling to see kids grow more confident through encouragement and guidance. Being an au pair also gives me the opportunity to experience Australian culture more closely while offering meaningful help to a local family. It’s a great way to exchange values and build connections while I’m staying in Sydney for my language program.

3. Why should you consider hosting me?
You should consider hosting me because I’m calm, patient, and respectful, but I also know how to set clear boundaries when needed — especially to ensure children’s safety and respectful behaviour. I bring a lot of experience with kids and can assist with homework, especially in maths and science, as well as help out with cooking and light housework. I’m also an animal lover and completely comfortable with pets — I actually have three cats, a tortoise, and two geckos back home in Taiwan! I’m available on weekdays after 3:00 p.m., and I’m ready to support your family in whatever way I can.

4. Why do I believe I’m a good fit for this position?
I believe I’m a great fit for this position because of my solid experience working with children aged 4 and up, my calm and responsible personality, and my genuine interest in helping families. My tutoring background means I know how to explain things patiently and adapt to each child’s needs. I’m also dependable, emotionally understanding, and open to taking on various tasks around the house. I’m here in Sydney until the end of January, and I’d love to make the most of that time by supporting a local family as their au pair.

Experience

I don’t have formal au pair experience yet, but I’ve spent over five years tutoring elementary and middle school students, especially in maths and physics. I’ve also led several children’s camps, where I guided kids through activities and kept them engaged and safe.

I’d like to become an au pair abroad because I enjoy working with children and want to experience cultural exchange while supporting a local family. It’s a great way to contribute, grow personally, and build meaningful connections during my time in Australia.
