Letter to the family

Dear future host family,

I'm happy you have visited my profile. I am Tessa, 23 years old, from the United States. I am currently working as an au pair in the Netherlands for a nice family with 4 year old twins. I am having a wonderful time, and I would love to spend next year with another family somewhere else in the world. In April 2019, I graduated from an American university with my bachelor's degree in History and German. I am a native English speaker, and speak German at B2 level. I have a beginners level in Dutch as well, and hope to improve my Dutch over the remainder of my year here. My current assignment ends in July 2020, and I am searching for a new family to join starting between August and November 2020.

An added note: I have visible tattoos and facial piercings. The images and text of the tattoos are non-offensive, and they can be covered by regular clothing if necessary. However, if someone with a somewhat alternative appearance doesn't sound right for your family, I am not the girl for you.

Experience

Experience with Childcare:

2009-2012
Babysitting one child, age 1-5 years. I changed diapers, fed her lunch and dinner, helped with potty training, taking the child to bed, and cared for her when she was sick. I read bedtime stories and helped her learn to read. We spent a lot of time playing, doing crafts, and learning in fun child-friendly ways.
2014-2019
Occasional Babysitting for neighbors, professors, and co-workers. Children aged birth to 9 years old. Picking the kids up from school by car, feeding them after school snacks, cooking dinner, helping with homework, and putting kids to bed.
July 2019-present
Au Pair for 4 year old twins, Netherlands. Talking to the kids in English, helping them learn correct grammar and pronunciation. Getting the kids ready for school, dropping them off, picking them up, preparing meals. Cooking dinner for the family 3-4 nights per week. Bringing the kids to bed, making sure they clean up their play area and toys, playing with them and coming up with fun age appropriate crafts, games, and educational activities like kid-friendly science experiments and learning to read, count, and do basic mathematics. Taking day trips with the kids to the playground, zoo, swimming pool, or children's museum.

I am already working as an au pair and I love the experience. Being with the family has been very enjoyable, and I like challenging myself to learn a new language and find my way in a new country. I also want to spend another year as an au pair because I don't know what I want to do when I grow up yet. I enjoy teaching and working in childcare, but I am still uncertain if I am ready to go back to university and start a master's degree to become a teacher. I also plan to continue living outside of the United States, and I want to explore and live in a few more countries before I decide where I want to stay.
