I have been taking care of children for 10 years now. The past year I have been a full-time nanny for two boys. My responsibilities have been to pick up and drive them to appointments and practices, help with homework and test prep, make lunches, schedule playdates, bake with them, and play games.

I think the most important connection for Au Pairs and parents to have for one another is consideration. Each should be considerate of each other's time, beliefs, and virtues. Empathy creates a respectful dynamic for both sides that ultimately benefits the children. Through respectful surroundings, the children also learn how to be open-minded, empathetic, and tolerant. I also find that honesty is hugely important in working together.

You can expect me to be very supportive of the parents' wishes in taking care of their children and the home. Also, I am very protective of every child I watch, especially when in a public area. Sometimes I have to remind myself that children are stronger little humans than we give credit. However, they also are developing and I never want anyone or anything to crush their fragile spirits. My goal as a nanny is to ensure safety and build confidence in the children. I try my best to be astute to the children's environment and adapt to any situation that is presented to me.

Lastly, something that is not expected but is delightful to have is humor. Children are naturally funny. As adults, it is easier to be serious and forget to lighten up. You can expect me to occasionally crack some jokes. Overall, a few laughs and smiles make the job and life better.
